Position Summary:

A position is available at the Wisconsin National Primate Research Center (WNPRC) in the laboratory of Dr. Igor Slukvin. The successful applicant will assume a lead role in the project focusing on genetic engineering of human and nonhuman primate pluripotent stem cells with the goal to develop alternative sources of immune cells for cellular therapies of cancers and infectious diseases.

Degree and Area of Specialization:

PhD in Biomedical Science required, with PhD-level experience in genetic engineering and hematopoiesis from human and nonhuman primate pluripotent stem cells.

Minimum Years and Type of Relevant Work Experience:

At least 3 to 5 years of post-doctoral experience preferred. Experience in genetic engineering including, CRISPR/Cas9 editing, prime editing, design of genetic constructs for gene overexpression, knockout and lineage tracing experiments is required.

Strong skills in human and nonhuman primate pluripotent stem cell (PSC) culture, generation of hemogenic endothelium and T, NK cells and macrophages from PSCs; assessment of in vitro and in vivo activities iPSC-derived CAR-T cells, NK cells and macrophages are preferred. Familiarity with project management and personnel management experience preferred. Excellent communication and computer skills required. Demonstrative track record of productivity as evidenced by principal authorships in peer- reviewed scientific journals is preferred.

License or Certificate:

BL2+ training required and can be completed upon hire.

Additional Information:

Must possess a valid driver's license that mees standards of UW Risk Management in order to operate WNPRC vehicles.

A one-year period of evaluation will be required.

The Wisconsin National Primate Research Center (WNPRC) is one of seven federally supported National Primate Research Centers and the only one in the Midwest. WNPRC's mission is to increase the understanding of basic primate biology and to improve human health and quality of life through research. To accomplish this, the WNPRC helps discover treatments, preventions and cures for human disease; generates new knowledge of primate biology, from the molecular and whole animal levels to the understanding of primate ecosystems; facilitates research progress by providing expertise, resources and training to scientists worldwide; and collects primate information and disseminates to the research community and to the public.
