Opening Details

The Williams College Center for Development Economics is seeking an experienced administrative professional to serve in the role of Assistant Director. This opportunity will allow you to draw upon your experience in educational or non-profit administration while building new skills within a globally diverse master’s program in economics for future policy-makers from developing nations around the world https://cde.williams.edu/

Since opening in 1960, the CDE program has trained 1300+ graduates from more than 110 nations. Alumni have gone on to rise to positions in their countries including minister, central bank governor, ambassador, and even prime minister.

Just as CDE fellows contribute to the Williams community with their diversity, so too is Williams College committed to enriching its educational experience and its culture through the diversity of its faculty and staff. The CDE program and staff are located in a restored, historic building on campus and convene frequently there, often during weekday lunch for the CDE community.


Responsibilities

The Assistant Director’s responsibilities will span four main areas: student services, office services, faculty and academic support, and alumni outreach. Colleagues will have their own focal areas but will collaborate with you frequently. Your responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

  • Overseeing international and domestic student travel arrangements for up to 30 CDE fellows each year
  • Organizing ongoing cultural and recreational activities
  • Collaborating with other entities/offices on campus and locally
  • Program administration including expense control and monitoring
  • Trouble-shooting facilities issues for both the academic and dormitory buildings
  • Organizing tutors and collaborating with the writing center
  • Planning speakers and conferences
  • Leading our alumni outreach efforts
  • Managing alumni requests for academic records


Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree and relevant fields of study preferred
  • A minimum of 4 years of relevant experience including exposure to the functional areas you will manage
  • Cross-cultural competency is essential; experience with international education, economics, foreign languages, or working abroad would be beneficial
  • Excellent organizational and project management skills, a highly collaborative approach to day-to-day work and open communication style
  • Must be a US citizen or LPR in order to secure Alternate Responsible Officer status with the US Department of State for the purpose of managing student visas


Application review will begin on July 21, 2021, and will continue until the position is filled. Pay starts in the mid-to-high $50,000’s, commensurate with experience. Job band 2-E.
