Post-Doctoral Research Associate

Job Details

Responsibilties:

A postdoctoral research fellowship is available under the direction of Prof. S.T. Misture, Inamori Professor of Materials Science & Engineering. The work centers on synthesis, structure and properties of complex framework and layered or 2-D oxides that are of interest in ion sorption, catalysis, and a range of electrochemical applications. Misture’s group specializes in X-ray and neutron scattering to study materials, and nanocrystalline and disordered materials are of high interest, especially those with controlled defects that can be tuned to optimize materials or device performance.

In-situ and in-operando studies are routinely applied to understand the evolution of phases, microstructures and properties as a function of temperature, gaseous atmosphere, electrochemical charging, etc. The laboratories at Alfred University under the supervision of Prof. Misture include high and low temperature XRD for bulk, powder and thin films, high and low temperature Raman and IR spectroscopy, high temperature AFM, low/high temperature vibrating sample magnetometry, and high temperature SEM. The successful candidate will also have access to a range of ambient and high temperature electrical properties measurements and a full suite of electrochemical measurements systems.

Requirements:

Applicants should hold a Ph.D. in MSE or related fields, preferably with strong experience in one or more of: characterization of materials, preferably with experience using synchrotron and/or neutron facilities; complex computational modeling or data modeling codes; complex laboratory measurements; and advanced materials synthesis methods.

Alfred University actively subscribes to a policy of equal employment opportunity, and will not discriminate against any employee, student or applicant because of race, age, sex, color, sexual orientation, gender identification or expression, physical or mental disability, religion, ancestry or national origin, marital status, genetic information, military or veteran status, domestic violence victim status, criminal conviction status, political affiliation or any other characteristic protected by applicable law.
