The IT Academic Technology Department supports academic platforms
and technology which is critical for faculty, staff, and students.
Our team ensures that faculty have the tools, resources and
knowledge to effectively teach in online and hybrid environments.
The Lead Instructional Designer – Instruction & Technology
manages instructional design technology systems and processes in
support of excellent academic instruction. The person in this role
uses a high degree of knowledge and expertise in the areas of
learning science, information design, adult learning, and
usability/accessibility to partner with, guide, and support faculty
in designing and developing learner-centered instruction that
follows best practices for all delivery formats. This role has a
profound impact on student and faculty success in the online
learning environment. Responsibilities:
- Create systematic design processes to guide faculty, staff, or
subject matter experts through outcome and best-practice focused
course design, especially focused on digital materials for all
course delivery formats (face-to-face, hybrid, and
online)
- Lead teams, programs, and departments through processes to
enhance instructional quality and student experiences
- Lead programs and departments in the process by which “Course
Templates” and “Master Courses” are designed, including the
selection of consistent “up-front” content pages
- Lead projects to redesign face-to-face courses into effective
hybrid or fully online courses while following best practices and
maintaining equivalent specific learning outcomes
- Consult with faculty members to enhance their use of effective
instructional strategies and technology tools for reaching the
desired student learning objectives in a range of delivery modes,
including face-to-face, hybrid, and fully online.
- Provide instruction and support to faculty, staff, and students
in how to use academic technology tools in order to increase their
comfort level and self-sufficiency.
- Provide accessibility support and instruction for faculty,
staff and students in conjunction with the academic technology
tools being used.
- Create, teach and facilitate faculty development courses, workshops, offerings, and events.

- Masters degree in Instructional Systems Design, Educational
Technology, Online/Distance Education, or a closely related
field.
- Six years professional experience designing instructional
materials and online instruction.
- Experience designing instructional materials and online
instruction in a higher education environment.
- Experience with curriculum development, instructional design
concepts and principles, adult learning theory, needs assessment,
and online/distance learning best practices.
- Experience designing instruction that engages students in
active learning experiences.
- Experience using emerging technology to support instructional objectives, such as course management systems, rich media, lecture capture, video-desktop conferencing, screen recording software, web tools, and classroom-based tools such as high-tech projection systems and student response systems.
- Six years professional experience designing instructional
materials and online instruction in a higher education
environment.
- Experience ensuring that instructional materials and online
instruction is accessible.
- Experience as system administrator for instructional technology systems.
