Marketing Director, UC Administration

The UC Administration invites applications for a Marketing Director to join their team. Working under the direction of the University Center Director, the Marketing and Web Manager directs the marketing and brand of the University Center (UC), which includes oversight of communications, marketing, social media, web design and management, photographing events and the facility, signage and graphic design. Leadership is expected to be performed with substantial independence and decision-making authority. The Individual in this position must have competencies and skill sets associated with the principles of marketing, advertising, public relations, and communication. The person assigned to this role must have the ability to execute graphic design concepts and theories; have significant knowledge of website architecture, production, and best practices of website use; have significant knowledge of graphic design software; ability to develop and manage production timelines; and, ability to assess emerging media.



The marketing unit supports the overall mission of the University Center in their ability to develop and use effective promotions, communications and informational pieces in a variety of media and formats. The person assigned to this position provides advice, leadership, and direction for permanent and temporary employees to ensure program success and development opportunities for those involved. The individual occupying this position is responsible for budget oversight.

Position Details
  • Position is full-time, 1.0 FTE, 12 month, MUS Contract and includes a comprehensive and competitive benefits package including Insurance package, mandatory retirement plan, partial tuition waiver, and wellness program.
  • Salary for this position is $55,000 per year commensurate with qualifications.
Required Skills
  • Individual must be a self-starter to keep various forms of media fresh and up-to-date and be able to develop a marketing direction, plan, and brand for the University Center that is consistent with the University of Montana brand
  • Thorough knowledge of marketing principles and practices that include branding and the processes associated with the creation and application of departmental identity; marketing strategies and techniques; and audience identification
  • Ability to perform the job responsibilities and make decisions with limited supervision
  • Significant knowledge of graphic design concept and theories, software, and hardware
  • Ability to navigate and utilize web applications
  • Significant knowledge of website architecture, production and best practices
  • Ability to develop and manage production timelines
  • Excellent public relations skills are required with the ability to represent the UC and the University of Montana at various events on and off campus
  • Demonstrated knowledge in message development, writing and disseminating press releases
  • Ability to establish and maintain clear lines of communication with students, campus departments, outside agencies, businesses, and the public
  • Basic understanding of student union philosophy and the role of a college union
  • Demonstrated experience in the development of creative marketing campaigns, with preference given to working with a young adult population
  • Ability to hire and supervise permanent and student staff and the ability to train staff on graphic design software and hardware
  • Be effective in delegation and staff workload coordination
  • Supervise multiple projects, establishing production schedules, setting priorities, managing deadlines, and assigning various tasks
  • Ability to use basic accounting principles to develop and/or maintain program budget
  • Ability to establish and maintain a current and thorough understanding of various specialized software applications by attending trainings, taking online tutorials, and reading supplemental materials as needed
  • Ability to make recommendations for information technology hardware and software changes and/or purchases


Minimum Required Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in marketing, public relations, mass communication, creative writing, graphic design, or a related field and three (3) to five (5) years of related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience
