The Batten College of Engineering and Technology (BCET) at Old
Dominion University is accepting applications for the Director of
Finance and Operations (full-time, 12 month) position. This
position will provide strategic leadership and oversight of all
financial and administrative operations and select human resources
initiatives in consultation with the Dean of the College and its
constituent department chairs in order to ensure compliance with
University policies and procedure in financial reporting and
management.
Required Education: Master’s degree in a related
field such as finance, public administration, business
administration, or accounting OR a bachelor’s degree and related
experience equivalent to a master’s degree in finance, public
administration, business administration, accounting, or related
field of study.
Required Qualifications: Extensive experience
using Banner (including Banner scheduling, finance, and general
student). Considerable experience in establishing financial
accountability processes, internal controls, and developing short-
and long-term business plans. Considerable experience forecasting
and projecting budget scenarios within different budget models.
Considerable experience in financial management and administration
in higher education. Some experience aligning strategic initiatives
with financial plans. Some experience in developing and maintaining
financial planning tools and forecasting models capable of
providing both short- and long-range financial data and goals. Some
experience in an accounting management position with
responsibilities for budget preparation and development of
management-level financial reports to track budget execution.
Microsoft Office (with advanced expertise in Excel), SPSS, and/or
other statistical analysis packages. Considerable knowledge of
financial systems and personnel policies and procedures related to
higher education. Considerable knowledge of computers and automated
accounting systems. Strong interpersonal skills and excellent oral
and written communication skills. Demonstrated management ability
and leadership skills. Strong math skills. Effective customer
service and problem solving/decision making skills. Advanced
spreadsheet skills, including manipulation of large data sets.
Ability to analyze, summarize and present financial and narrative
information clearly. Demonstrated ability to work independently;
meet strict deadlines; interpret policies, analyze data, make
sensible recommendations and decisions; and maintain the utmost
confidentiality involving matters of a sensitive nature.
