Job Description:

The W. P. Carey School of Business Undergraduate Programs area is seeking an energetic and self-motivated individual to work on its Student Engagement team. The Student Engagement team works to implement programming aimed at retention, leadership development and engagement of W. P. Carey students. Under direct supervision of the Senior Coordinator, this position will coordinate logistics, program planning, and staffing for the New Student Experience (formerly new student orientation). The Coordinator will manage live, online course planning sessions; coordinate communication and outreach plans to new students and families; facilitate cross-functional professional committees to develop and share knowledge with deans, administrator, students, and staff; and possess strong spreadsheet skills to manage multiple programs enrolling more than 3,000 incoming first-year business students efficiently and successfully for their first semester. Additional expectations for this coordinator include selecting, training and co-supervising student leaders (Peer Advisors) and coordinating multiple New Student Experience events and programs (e.g. Family Orientations and New Student Welcomes). This individual will also provide varying levels of event management, coordination, support and participation for Student Engagement events and programs: Dean’s List celebrations, Fall Welcome, WPC 101, Camp Carey, Graduation Celebration, and Convocation. The Coordinator will work with a variety of staff members – both at W. P. Carey and across campus and must be successful managing many details, taking initiative, and demonstrating integrity.

Days and Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8:00am to 5:00pm; work hours will also include some evenings and weekends. The position will require in-state travel.

Working Environment:

Work with university students one-on-one and in group/class settings in-person, virtually (Zoom), via phone, and e-mail. Communicate effectively - in writing, verbally, and visually - to develop newsletters and marketing materials; create metrics; provide reports in various formats (electronic, hard-copy, etc.); and present information to faculty, administrators, staff, campus partners, and students. Lift/move up to 30 pounds (materials, brochures, boxes, etc.). Utilize computer, phone, and various technologies (Zoom, Google, Dropbox, etc.), office equipment (fax, copier, etc.). Work some extended hours, including evenings and/or weekends, as needed.

Essential Duties:

Lead, coordinate and support the following activities:

  • New Student Experience (formerly new student orientation) planning and execution of 25+ programs each spring and summer
  • Under direct supervision of Senior Coordinator, the New Student Experience (NSE) expectations are:
    • Manage all day-of logistics for NSE live Course Planning Sessions, which includes strong ability to manage a variety of situations quickly and efficiently
    • Identify W. P. Carey goals for business students participating in the New Student Experience
    • Identify and coordinate internal committee with academic advisors and others to develop plans for successful NSE
    • Recruit, select, train/teach, and co-supervise student leaders who assist with NSE
    • Oversee communication plans to new students from academic advisors and Student Engagement
    • Strong spreadsheet skills to keep track of classes, sessions, people and events
  • Event coordination for Family Orientations, New Student Welcome programs on multiple campuses and online, and some smaller events held on campus and/or online
  • Assist Senior Coordinator with events such as Fall Welcome, Family Weekend, Graduation Celebration, Convocation, etc.
  • Participate in Student Engagement initiatives including WPC 101, Camp Carey, Steps to Success, Business Community Advantage, etc.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Evidence of a Master’s degree
  • Skill in coordinating and managing programs and events
  • Experience working with students in higher education/college level student engagement
  • Experience using Microsoft Office Applications (i.e. Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Experience in designing and implementing new student/orientation programming
  • Knowledge and understanding of diversity/equity/inclusion student issues
  • Demonstrated use of problem solving skills; critical thinking; time management skills; and strong ability to rapidly adapt and effectively utilize new technology, practices and policies
  • Evidence of effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Experience in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with peers, faculty, students, administration and others
  • Knowledge of student development theory and practices
  • Knowledge of retention practices and techniques
  • Demonstrated knowledge of ASU academic structure and organization
  • Experience using Student Information computer system (i.e., PeopleSoft, Salesforce etc.)

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in a field appropriate to the area of assignment AND three (3) years of related experience; OR, Any equivalent combination of education and/or experience from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved.
