Southern Connecticut State University is seeking a dynamic individual for the position Programmer Specialist within the Office of Information Technology. The Programmer Specialist independently analyzes, designs, programs, tests, and performs overall development of new and future systems as required by the University under the direction of the Director or designee. Coordinates and maintains computer systems for administrative areas. May act as a project leader in the development phase were required.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:

Able to apply creative thinking/proactively anticipates outcomes.

Analyzes systems, designs and writes computer programs independently; documents requirements and specifications, and implements new and future systems.

May act as project leader/supervise programmers.

Coordinates operations and programs for existing systems in various administrative areas.

Coordinates, maintains supports University interfaces, files, reports, and/or any other reporting mechanisms as needed.

Develops and implements web applications. Supports existing and purchased systems.

Expert in relevant products.

Produces special reports requested by administrative offices.

Performs other duties and responsibilities related to those enumerated above which do not alter the basic level of responsibility of the position. 

QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Mathematics or a related area, and four or more years of professional experience in applications programming with demonstrated knowledge of Java, JavaScript, Groovy, Grails application framework and XML. Working knowledge of Oracle development tools including Oracle APEX and PL/ SQL (with the ability to construct complex SQL statements). Familiarity with Ellucian Banner SIS data. Master’s degree preferred. Ability to meet requirements of skill set. These qualifications may be waived for individuals with appropriate alternate experience.
