Faculty Position Announcement – Clinical Assistant Professor (Non Tenure-Track)

Unmanned Aerial Systems

Purdue University in West Lafayette, Indiana, is accepting applications for a Clinical Assistant Professor (non tenure-track) position beginning in fall 2021. This faculty appointment is in the School of Aviation & Transportation Technology, the Purdue Polytechnic Institute.

DESCRIPTION: Essential job duties include the following: (1) Develop and teach undergraduate and/or graduate courses in unmanned aerial systems and related areas;  (2) collaborate with other academic units at Purdue, as well as, other organizations externally, to engage with government and industry to support externally-funded applied research; (3) serve on curriculum committees; (4) perform customary faculty assignments and student mentoring; and (5) demonstrate a commitment to inclusion and transformational education.  The ideal candidate should have a record of academic teaching, curriculum development, and student mentoring. Once selected, all candidates must demonstrate plans for success with teaching and engagement with community and industry.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:  M.S. or M.A. in aviation or other STEM-related field is required. Applicants must possess appropriate FAA certificates and ratings necessary to perform assigned duties in the Unmanned Aerial Systems program. Prior to job start, the candidate must possess a valid FAA Part 107 Remote Pilot Certificate.  Candidates must demonstrate experience in manufacturing, maintaining, and operating commercial UAS, including various UAS mission planning software and sensor integration.

GENERAL INFORMATION:  Purdue University is a land grant-university dedicated to learning, discovery, and engagement.  The School of Aviation and Transportation Technology is home to seven undergraduate majors, including Professional Flight Technology, Aviation Management, Aeronautical Engineering Technology, Unmanned Aerial Systems, and Aerospace Financial Analysis, all leading to a B.S. degree.  Students may also pursue M.S.’ M.S. online and Ph.D. degrees.  The Professional Flight, Aviation Management, and Aeronautical Engineering Technology programs are professionally accredited and are nationally recognized for educating graduates who become successful leaders in a wide variety of aviation, aerospace, and space careers. Successful candidates in non-tenure track appointments are expected to demonstrate excellence in teaching and industry engagement. Commitment to scholarship is encouraged and valued, particularly for promotion considerations.

SALARY AND BENEFITS:  Salary and rank will be commensurate with the education, experience, and qualifications of the candidate.  Benefits will include comprehensive health and retirement plans.
