The Department of Oncology seeks aSr. Research Nursewho will be under the direct supervision of the Research Nurse Manager and the Principal Investigator(s). This role is responsible for the coordination and management of clinical trial referrals within the Developmental Therapeutics research program.

Specific Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Serves as the center wide contact for all providers regarding potential generic solid tumor candidates and/or study specific referrals.
  • Attends start up meetings for new clinical trials, and presents protocol summaries at other disease group meetings when new trials open. Meets/talks with candidates to educate/consent/prescreen as appropriate. Proactively obtains any necessary patient records required for new candidates and prescreens potential research subjects for participation in clinical trials (i.e. review of medical history, concomitant meds, pathology, other relevant documents). Moves patients through the system from referral to consent/screening visit in the most efficient timeline possible, including securing slots and initiating insurance approvals.
  • Collaborates with other departments to schedule necessary testing for new candidates, as needed.
  • Maintains ongoing tracking and appropriate documentation on active referrals to promote team awareness. Captures inactive/ineligible candidates in CRMS to ensure all work is accounted for in the program. Maintains current lists of trials and active slots available and circulates to other programs for awareness. Actively reaches out to disease groups regarding competitive slots. Assists with development of SOP’s pertaining to clinical trial referral process, and implements changes and improvements as necessary in collaboration with program team members.
  • Documents telephone and other communications with patients per institutional policy.
  • Attends regular team meetings and collaborates with study team members to review screening and enrollment updates.
  • Maintains proficiency in work flows of oncology clinic, Epic/Beacon, and any other systems required for scheduling, screening and treating new patients.
  • Provides cross-coverage for clinical research nurses to aide in screening/ prescreening process of new candidates, as well as during peak times of work load across program (i.e., staff vacations, etc.).
  • Has working knowledge of and complies with Good Clinical Practices, ICH Guidelines and SKCCC Clinical Research Office policies.

Minimum Qualifications (Mandatory):

  • Individual must be a registered nurse, licensed in the State of Maryland or state where practicing.
  • Bachelor's degree in nursing or related discipline required.
  • Minimum of two years’ experience in the specialty or a related area required.
  • Additional experience may substitute for bachelor's degree. Related master's degree may be considered in lieu of experience.

JHU Equivalency Formula: 30 undergraduate degree credits (semester hours) or 18 graduate degree credits may substitute for one year of experience. Additional related experience may substitute for required education on the same basis.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's degree strongly preferred.
  • Experience in Oncology Research preferred.

Special Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Excellent organizational skills required.
  • Excellent attention to detail skills required.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Ability to effectively manage multiple and competing priorities.
  • Highly effective verbal and written communication skills are required.
  • Proficiency in PC operations and software applications such as MS Windows, Excel, Word, and Adobe/Foxit.

Starting Salary Range: $70,805 - $97,435 annually (commensurate with experience)

This may include documentation of having two (2) MMR vaccines; two (2) Varicella vaccines; or antibody status to these diseases from laboratory testing. Blood tests for immunities to these diseases are ordinarily included in the pre-employment physical exam except for those employees who provide results of blood tests or immunization documentation from their own health care providers. Any vaccinations required for these diseases will be given at no cost in our Occupational Health office.
