Our current project is a multi-center collaborative endeavor, involving Johns Hopkins University, New York University, and CDI Laboratories, Inc. Our group has developed the Human proteome microarray (HuProt) technology that enables a high-throughput pipeline for the generation and primary validations of the mono-specific monoclonal antibodies.

We are seeking a Senior Research Specialist who will contribute to scientific research interests of the laboratory by writing peer-reviewed manuscripts and grants and will apply independent thoughts to make decisions with the Principal Investigator. This role will contribute to reports, manuscripts and grants by preparing analyzed data into tables and figures for scientific publications. In collaboration with the Principal Investigator, this person will make research project decisions that may alter research objectives and direction, will supervise and provide training and recommendations for evaluation of students and new members in the laboratory and develop assays and protocols for the Principal Investigator's approval. They will carry out troubleshooting, training/guidance of other lab personnel and and maintain regular interaction with students, vendors, post-doctoral fellows, and faculty members. Also, will apply published research methods to current experimental work by investigating published protocols and discussing them with the PI.The Senior Research Specialist will act as a consultant to refine or adapt methodologies to fit research objectives and will collaborate in the development of new technologies, protocols and uses of equipment.

Specific Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Expressing human transcription factors (TFs) into specific vectors using molecular techniques, such as Gateway recombinant cloning, transformation, etc.
  • Purify the human TF construct DNA at a large scale and maintaining proper database of the same, while being comfortable in high-throughput environment, handling hundreds of samples at a time.
  • Proper maintenance of the library collections of around 20,000 plasmids and proteins.
  • Writing peer-reviewed manuscripts and grants by preparing analyzed data into tables and figures for scientific publications
  • Perform laboratory tests utilizing requisite lab equipment and instruments, as well as utilizing specialized knowledge to interpret results, e.g., reading controls and evaluating results, as required.
  • Responsible for laboratory maintenance, supervising the preparation of solutions and media and ordering supplies and interfacing with vendors; operate laboratory equipment and instruments; record data; maintain and make minor adjustments to equipment.
  • Train and direct the work of other laboratory personnel with respect to proper laboratory techniques, the use of laboratory equipment and safety procedures.
  • Will carry out troubleshooting/guidance of other lab personnel on a daily basis.

Equipment, Machine, or Tool Requirements:

  • Will carry out various assays and experiments, which include:
    • Enteric microbiology (e.g., culture and identifications of specific bacteria)
    • Blot methods
    • Basic tissue culture
    • PCR
    • Spectrophotometer
    • Gel electrophoresis
    • Gel Scanner
    • Lab Chip GX
    • Microarray scanner

Minimum Qualifications (Mandatory):

  • Bachelor’s degree in biology, chemistry or related field.
  • 4 years’ experience in a comparable laboratory performing relevant techniques. Master's degree, with related graduate research, may substitute for experience to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master Degree in Biochemistry.

Special Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Hands-on experience in the field of high throughput biology is essential.
  • Ability to quickly learn and develop new laboratory skills and techniques.
  • Excellent communication skills, exemplary experimental design skills, and tactful assertive interpersonal skills.
  • Communicate with key customers such as faculty, staff, students, and vendors to resolve issues and ensure smooth operation of all lab activities in a timely manner.
  • Knowledge of Lab Chip GX software is required.
  • Ability to use Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint is essential.
  • Knowledge of SAP software for purchasing application is a must.

Starting Salary Range: $45,195 - $62,225 annually (commensurate with experience)
