JOB DESCRIPTION

The University of Indianapolis invites applications for an Associate Adjunct K-6 STEM Position. This is a one year, 21-hour appointment in the School of Education that will begin in August 2021.

The School of Education is known for its strong reputation for producing great teachers and partnering with nearby innovative schools and districts. The recent launch of a cutting-edge interdisciplinary Elementary Education STEM program gained national attention for its progressive approach to preparing transformational teachers and teacher leaders.

Required qualifications include an earned Doctorate in Education (ABD will be considered). Preference will be given to individuals with a Doctorate in an Elementary STEM area. Additionally, experience teaching in an Elementary building working with linguistically and culturally diverse students is required.

The successful applicant will teach math pedagogy and interdisciplinary STEM courses and supervise undergraduate students in field experiences (clinical course-related and student teaching). The applicant must be willing to teach courses on campus, in clinical settings, and online as needed. This position is highly collaborative, thus the successful applicant will engage with faculty, students, and school and community partners in a manner that highlights creativity, collegiality, and innovation. Collaboration surrounding scholarship opportunities are welcomed.

Required Qualifications:

  • An earned doctorate in Education, preferred an elementary STEM area;

  • Expertise in elementary mathematics instruction;

  • Experiences working in linguistically and culturally diverse K-6 schools, preferably in urban settings for three or more years;

  • Involvement in designing and implementing high-quality, diverse and interconnected STEM learning experiences;

  • Background in integrating technology, transdisciplinary teaching, and problem-based learning; and

  • Evidence of excellent communication and collaboration skills, particularly working with faculty, university students, K-12 partners, K-6 students, and community partners.



Preference will be given to individuals who have the following characteristics:

  • Elementary mathematics or STEM specialists;

  • Experience teaching practicum-based courses at the university level in face-to-face and hybrid environments;

  • Knowledge about Makerspace pedagogy and learning technologies;

  • Experience teaching in a transdisciplinary elementary education STEM programs;

  • Understanding of working with children with dis/abilities; and

  • Experience with teaching, research, and service at the university level.
