Position Summary:

Reporting to the Managing Director of the Office of Business Engagement (OBE), the primary expectation of this role is to build new and improve/expand existing relationships between UW-Madison and private-sector companies, particularly those in the high technology, advanced manufacturing, and biotechnology sectors. These comprehensive relationships will include, but are not limited to research partnerships, sponsorship opportunities, philanthropy, executive education, student recruitment and technology transfer.

This role will be measured by driving additional revenue annually for the university to the mutual benefit of stakeholders across campus. In addition, this role will support key strategic initiative successful completion, i.e., APLU IEP process and designation, industry partner programs and various capital and building sponsorship projects.

Degree and Area of Specialization:

Bachelor's degree required. Educational and applied background in engineering, data sciences, physical sciences or biotechnology a plus, but not required.

Minimum Years and Type of Relevant Work Experience:

- At least 5 years of experience and a proven track record in business development and complex, multi-stakeholder problem solving.
- Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills and be comfortable speaking in small groups or large forums.
- Must be comfortable and interested in working with and influencing faculty, department chairs and Deans, C- and VP-level executives and administrators.
- Excellent planning and follow through skills are essential.
- Prefer business development and complex solution selling or technical sales background.
- Higher education experience a plus, but not required.
- An understanding of differences between higher education and private sector/industry processes, governance and decision making is beneficial.
- Experience in leading through influence.
- Experience in relationship management and development.
- Experience with university practices regarding student/talent recruitment, sponsorship, collaborative research and/or tech transfer desired.
- Experience managing multi-stakeholder partnerships and/or key accounts is beneficial.
- Understanding of UW-Madison or research/academic institutions is beneficial.

Additional Information:

Compensation will be commensurate with experience.
