William Paterson University invites applications for the full-time 12-month position of Advisement Specialist – WP Online Nursing.

Reporting to the Chairperson of the Department of Nursing, the Advisement Specialist - WP Online Nursing advises online nursing students who are enrolled in all of the various online tracks for the RN-BSN, RN-MSN, MSN programs and post-master's certificate programs. In collaboration with the WP Online graduate nursing coordinator and the RN-BSN coordinator, the WP Online Nursing Advisement Specialist also works to develop and implement an effective system of academic recruitment, advisement, matriculation, and retention.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Providing academic advising support of online RN-BSN and MSN students from recruitment to graduation.
  • Implementing an effective system of academic recruitment, advisement, matriculation, and retention of WP online students in coordination with the Offices of Admissions, Registrar, Financial Aid and the Nursing Department Chair and faculty for programs including but not limited to:
  • Online RN-BSN Program
  • Online RN-MSN Program
  • Online MSN Programs:
    • Adult-Gerontology Nurse Practitioner Concentration
    • Family Nurse Practitioner Concentration
    • Nurse Education Concentration
    • Nursing Administration Concentration
  • Online Post Masters Certificate Programs:
    • Adult Gerontology Nurse Practitioner Certificate
    • Family Nurse Practitioner Certificate
    • Nurse Education Certificate
    • Nursing Administration Certificate
    • Establishing and maintaining degree maps based on the rotation of courses for each program and providing this information to students.
    • Advising incoming and current WP Online nursing students on course selection and registration with the appropriate degree plans including registration overrides and transfer of credits as needed.
    • Advising on-campus/on ground graduate students who request transfer to the WP online MSN Program.
    • Advising online MSN students when planning to change concentration.
    • Advising online RN-MSN students on requirements for successful matriculation into the online MSN program.
    • Reviewing academic standing for all students and working with the Nursing Department's Academic Standards Committee regarding academic probation and/or dismissals for WP Online RN-BSN and WP Online Graduate students.
    • Ensuring consistent communication to students on policies and procedures, and changes in degree requirements.
    • Performing other duties as assigned that are appropriate for the position.

    Minimum qualifications:

    • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university
    • Three (3) or more years' work experience in academic advisement, student affairs, student services, counseling, mentoring and/or a related area
    • Demonstrated skills in Information Technology and proficiency in the use of Microsoft Suite Office Applications
    • Ability to work a flexible schedule which may include evening and weekend assignments

    Preferred qualifications:

    • Master's degree
