The Director of Pre-Professional Center for Health and Law (PPCHL) is a full-time, twelve-month, administrative position reporting to the Provost and Executive Vice-President. The Pre-Professional Center for Health and Law supports a community of pre-health as they prepare to apply to health programs. PPCHL services are available to students in any major. Using a student success advising model, PPCHL supports students as they explore career options, plan and complete pre-requisite coursework and gain experiential learning experience in preparation for applying to programs in health and law. Students are guided from initial health and law career exploration through the program application process.

The candidate must have credentials and/or experience in advising within a science, health and/or law related field and be knowledgeable about entrance requirements for medical, dental, veterinary, nursing, allied health programs.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for overseeing professional advising for registration for pre-health students. Works collaboratively with other departments on campus such as Center for Academic Success, the Academic Resource Center, the Career Center, Student Services, and Admissions. Provides customer service and support to parents in accordance with FERPA regulations. Participates in University Advising Academy professional development and upholds university advising standards.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with health professions schools/programs’ admissions personnel and other relevant organizations
  • In collaboration with the Career Center, provides assistance in professional coaching and campus resource referral to students who are in jeopardy of academic probation or dismissal.
  • Designs and implements innovative student workshops, orientation sessions, and enrichment opportunities.
  • Works closely with Pre-Health student organization clubs.
  • Monitors and provides specific outreach to students in jeopardy of academic probation. Contact students in response to faculty-submitted course alerts.
  • Provide regular and on-going individual and group advising for pre-health students. Those workshops/meetings would provide information such as prerequisites for programs, requirements for progression and/or admission to graduate programs, the application process, and financial aid.
  • Stay apprised of changes in health professions requirements and processes to ensure up to date information.
  • Provides candidates with feedback on essays, choice of schools, timing of application, preparing for and taking of appropriate entrance exams, and interviewing skills.
  • Provide introductory health professions information sessions, participate in Open Houses and relevant workshops and presentations for students preparing for and applying to health professions.
  • Focus on helping and supporting diverse qualified students to successfully advance in programs as well as their future careers in health professions. Identify strategies designed to recruit and support the success of a diverse student population. Update current advising website, to create user friendly interface with current and up-to-date information.

Required Qualifications:

  • Master's degree, health and related field of study
