The Laboratory Assistant will assist in the daily running of experiments in a neuroscience lab investigating alcoholism. Duties include wet bench applications, making solutions, maintaining a laboratory notebook, routine lab glassware washing and will involve rodent handling and behavioral testing. Some techniques to be used include qPCR, Western blot, immunohistochemistry and nucleic acid isolation. The applicant will learn how to work independently and in collaboration with other people, improve communication skills, organize laboratory, data processing, and use of various basic software. Student will gain practical hands-on experience in the area of life sciences, including basic chemistry, biology, neuroscience, pharmacology and toxicology.
Required Qualifications
Prior laboratory experience not required, but is preferred. Prior animal handing experience is preferred. An applicant should have advanced knowledge in chemistry and biology. An applicant should be responsible and must have an ability to follow instruction and learn new techniques
Preferred Qualifications
Demonstrated organizational skills, ability to work in the group, and ability to use Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint are preferred.
