Position Summary:
The Monmouth University Marjorie K. Unterberg School of Nursing and Health Studies seeks a dynamic and innovative leader to serve in an exciting dual role as the Hess Endowed Chair in Nursing Education and Nursing Department Chair. This is an initial three-year appointment for the Hess Endowed Chair role and five-year appointment for Nursing Department Chair role. The Department Chair role is 12 months. While serving in both capacities and on scholarship track with tenure, teach 3 to 6 credits in consultation with the Dean, distributed over fall, spring, and summer terms.

The Hess Endowed/Nursing Department Chair reports directly to the Dean and will work closely with the transdisciplinary leadership team in the School and University to implement strategic initiatives. This includes the new 7,000-square-foot state-of-the-art Linda Grunin Simulation Learning Lab and Learning Center, a groundbreaking partnership between Monmouth University and Monmouth Medical Center that provides hands-on learning in a realistic, hi-tech simulation environment.

The Hess Endowed Chair in Nursing Education role focuses on nursing education to meet the special needs of adults and senior citizens in a variety of settings. The ideal candidate must be an excellent teacher and scholar who engages in innovative instructional modalities that contributes to scholarly mentorship of faculty and students. The Hess Endowed Chair in Nursing Education is expected to teach with distinction and bring recognition to the Unterberg School and Monmouth University.

As Nursing Department Chair, the ideal candidate will lead and model expectations for faculty in research, scholarship, teaching, and service. The Department Chair is responsible for oversight of nursing department faculty and staff, advocating for departmental interests, and implementing policies and procedures determined by the administration, including those relating to the accreditation of the programs, collaborations with clinical partners, securing student clinical placements and preceptors, outcomes assessment data collection, data analysis, and quality improvements. In this role, the Department Chair is uniquely positioned to provide effective communication between department faculty and the administration that is essential to the University's smooth operation.

The Marjorie K. Unterberg School of Nursing and Health Department of Nursing offers a number of degree options, including two Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) pathways, two Master of Science in Nursing pathways (MSN), and an online Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) with a leadership focus. The School also offers seven unique MSN tracks; graduate certificates in forensic nursing and school nursing; post-master's certificates in nursing education; and several popular nurse practitioner fields such as adult-gerontology, family, and psychiatric-mental health. All nursing students are members of the Monmouth University Professional Nurses Association. Top BSN and MSN performers can also apply for membership in the Lambda Delta chapter of the Sigma Theta Tau International nursing honor society. The Unterberg School also offers Health Studies, Health Promotion, and Health Physical Education undergraduate (BS) majors; a Physician Assistant (MS) graduate program, and a new three-year Doctor of Occupational Therapy (OTD) program launching in summer 2021 as well as a 3+3 BS to OTD pathway in fall 2021.

The Unterberg School has approximately 37 full-time faculty and 13 staff members that educate close to 1,000 students. Our MSN programs have been nationally recognized by U.S. News & World Report, placing them among the best graduate nursing programs in New Jersey. We also rank among the top 100 best private nursing schools nationwide at No. 99 and No. 40 for the best nursing schools in the Mid-Atlantic region by Nursing Almanac Schools 2020.

Other Requirements:
Doctoral degree in Nursing, or a doctorate in a related field with a Master’s degree or higher in Nursing.

Licensed or eligible for licensure as a registered nurse in the State of New Jersey. Five years of academic teaching experience at the baccalaureate level or higher.

Record of scholarly achievement in research, publications, and presentations.
Demonstrated teaching excellence and innovation. Teaching, clinical practice, and/or research expertise in meeting the special needs of adults and/or senior citizens. Experience mentoring peers, faculty, and/or students. Record of academic, professional, and/or community service.

Record of accomplishment commensurate with appointment as Associate Professor or full Professor with tenure in the Department of Nursing in the Marjorie K. Unterberg School of Nursing and Health Studies.

Preferred Qualifications:
Certification in nursing, related specialty, and/or as a nurse practitioner. Research doctorate in nursing or related discipline.

Demonstrated leadership, management, or team building experience. Undergraduate/graduate teaching, curricular/program development, and accreditation experience.

Simulation-based nursing education and/or interprofessional education experience. Ability to meet challenges of adult learners with diverse backgrounds. External funding success. Strong candidates will have a record of commitment to diversity and equity that is evidenced across faculty, students, stakeholders, and programs.
