Connecticut College is conducting a national search for an Assistant Director of Residential Education and Living. The Assistant Director is a member of the Residential Education and Living (REAL) team that includes one other assistant director, two associate directors, and an assistant dean. The Assistant Director is responsible for the leadership and supervision of approximately 30 student staff members and 800 students and is primarily focused on the development and maintenance of strong residential communities that promote learning, growth, safety and wellbeing. The assistant director has a collateral assignment (10 hours a week) with the Office of Wellbeing and Health Promotion. The assistant director will work closely with the director of Wellbeing and Health Promotion to develop and implement office programs and initiatives. This is a full year (52 week), full time, live-in position, where nights and weekend hours are required. Compensation includes live-on housing and a meal plan. The compensation is competitive and is complimented by an excellent benefits package.

General Duties &
Responsibilities:

The Assistant Director will develop healthy, engaged and inclusive communities by fostering a supportive environment focusing on student development; assist students in academic and social adjustment to Connecticut College; work collaboratively in the development of residential learning communities; oversee the enforcement of all College rules and regulations on campus for all students; and assist with program and event implementation as needed by the Office of Student Life. The Assistant Director will be responsible for participation in the on-call rotation program, will serve as a conduct hearing officer, participate in campus-wide committees, and will be deeply involved in facilitating annual processes for the REAL Office (staff selection, housing selection, etc.).

The REAL office is part of the Division of Student Life under the supervision of the dean of students. The Division of Student Life works collaboratively to maximize the student experience on campus with our partners in the divisions of the Dean of College and Institutional Equity and Inclusion (collectively known as the Student Experience Group). The successful candidate will join Connecticut College at a dynamic time as the department creates a residential curriculum based on the student learning aims developed by the Student Experience Group.

Qualifications:

Master's degree in College Student Personnel, Higher Education Administration, Counseling, or a related field required; previous experience in residence life is strongly preferred. Candidates should demonstrate qualities that contribute to a setting where teamwork is highly valued with the ever-present goal of student learning and development. Candidates should be prepared to contribute to a setting where innovation and creativity help foster vibrant and engaged residential communities. Applicants must be student-centered and demonstrate a commitment to their own personal and professional growth. Candidates are also expected to be familiar with assessment strategies that can help the department measure the effectiveness of its educational program.
