The Communications Director, Alumni Annual Giving and Engagement plays a leadership role within the Philanthropic & Alumni Engagement (PAE) Communications Team and reports to the Vice Chancellor for Communications and Donor Relations. The Communications Director manages a group of three or more staff members along with freelancers and vendors in supporting the marketing and communications needs of PAE’s Alumni Annual Giving (AAG) and Alumni Relations (AR) programs. The incumbent focuses on encouraging outstanding philanthropic support (by partnering with AAG on 20+ segmented, personalized appeals that bring in more than $1.5 million annually) and promoting engagement among the University’s 320,000-plus alumni. On behalf of AAG and AR, the Communications Director develops, manages, and evaluates a broad portfolio of communications strategies, messaging, and materials, such as direct mail and email campaigns and solicitations; video and web content; newsletters; event promotion and collateral; social media content; surveys; magazine content; and various additional communications and marketing pieces across multiple platforms. All of this work is done in close cooperation with clients and requires a high degree of organization, excellent project management, and collaboration across departmental lines. The PAE Communications Team follows an agency/client model to fulfill the division’s marketing and communications goals, with key audiences including the University of Pittsburgh’s alumni, grateful patients of the UPMC system, and other donors ranging from individuals to corporations and foundations.
