Success Coach

About Northeastern:

Founded in 1898, Northeastern is a global research university and the recognized leader in experience-driven lifelong learning. Our world-renowned experiential approach empowers our students, faculty, alumni, and partners to create impact far beyond the confines of discipline, degree, and campus.

Our locations—in Boston; Charlotte, North Carolina; London; Portland, Maine; San Francisco; Seattle; Silicon Valley; Toronto; Vancouver; and the Massachusetts communities of Burlington and Nahant—are nodes in our growing global university system. Through this network, we expand opportunities for flexible, student-centered learning and collaborative, solutions-focused research.

Northeastern's comprehensive array of undergraduate and graduate programs— in a variety of on-campus and online formats—lead to degrees through the doctorate in nine colleges and schools. Among these, we offer more than 195 multi-discipline majors and degrees designed to prepare students for purposeful lives and careers.

About the Opportunity:

Success Coaches will be key contributors to a bold and innovative new program at Northeastern University, the Student Support Initiative. The inaugural Success Coach team will play an integral part in designing and refining this new student service.

The Northeastern University Student Support Initiative is a Pilot Program where the aim is to offer solution-based support services to the students at Northeastern University in a timely manner. By shifting student support referrals away from the responsibility of traditional Academic Advisors, students will no longer experience the typical wait time related to scheduling meetings with advisors creating roadblocks to resources readily available to them, and further mitigating a potential lack of continuity with advisor and advisee as it is typical to meet with an advisor based on area of expertise, not based on history or rapport. Our solution will augment the traditional advisory role and put students at the forefront of supporting one another. This application will connect students to available resources they need to answer their questions, solve for a problem, or plan for their future.

Responsibilities:

Success Coaches have the direct responsibility for the effective administration, leadership, and supervision of a cohort of approximately 10 Student Success Guides and first-year student participants in the Student Support Initiative.

The Student Support Initiative will work to welcome approximately 6,000 first-year students to the Northeastern University community, connect them to its many resources, and provide individualized support. Each Success Coach will supervise a group of approximately 10 paraprofessional Student Success Guides, with each Student Success Guide supporting approximately 10-25 students. Success Coaches will lead regular team meetings, individual coaching sessions, and trainings with the members of their Student Success Guide team.

The successful candidate will join a team of approximately 25 other Success Coaches and work with a dedicated leadership team. Supervision will include consistent group and individual meetings.

This position requires the individual to work some non-traditional hours including evenings and weekends to accommodate student schedules, including those engaged in co-op, athletics, and other aspects of student life.

Each Success Coach is an active participant on committees and other project work within the department. Success Coaches will be integral in the shaping, refining, and iterative design of the Student Support Initiative through analyzing data, providing consistent feedback, and their first-hand experience with the program.

The Success Coach is responsible for implementing protocol to address emergencies/crises/ mental health issues including: eating disorders, self-harm incidents, alcohol and drug use/abuse/overdose, and Title IX prohibited offenses. Even when not on-call, the Integration Coach must appropriately refer student crises to the appropriate staff when brought to their attention.

The Success Coaches will participate in and facilitate dialogue and engagement efforts related to the needs of a diverse student and staff population. Additionally, they will support and contribute to the University's commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.

The Success Coach is an exempt 12-month, full-time, professional staff member working as part of the Educational Innovation Team and regularly collaborating with campus partners throughout the University. Success Coaches will work at Northeastern University's Boston Campus.
The Success Coaches will be subject to a criminal background check.
