Job Summary

The People's Collaborative Governance Network (PCGN) is a multi-sector initiative centering on people with lived experiences of inequity in the co-creation of tools, practices, and policies to promote equity and inclusion in Boston. PCGN is hosted at the Engagement Lab at Emerson College, in partnership with MIT, and with core collaborators from within the City of Boston and from various community-based organizations. We are seeking 5 PCGN Summer Fellows who will work on specific codesign projects with teams composed of community leaders, government employees, and academic researchers. Fellows will play a critical project management role in their assigned project team, tasked with ensuring the project stays on track for completion in the short timeline. Fellows will be trained and supported in codesign methods, project management, community collaboration, and other skills as needed. Most of the Fellows' time will be remote, with occasional opportunities for in-person meetings and events in Boston.

Fellows will work part-time (15-19 hours/week) for approximately ten weeks in the Summer of 2021. Key Responsibilities:

There are four co-design challenge projects that Summer Fellows will work on with our collaborators:
  • Development-- Working with the Boston Planning and Development Agency to explore methods for increasing community participation, agency, and influence over development in their communities;
  • Intersections -- Working with the Mayor's Office of Urban Mechanics to explore how technology can promote connection and collaboration among civic actors;
  • Storytelling/Communication -- curating a communications plan for PCGN that emphasizes storytelling to a broader audience;
  • Curriculum Development --Designing curriculum for a future “Institute” to prepare university students and community members for community-led co-design.
  • Theory and practice of co-design, participatory design, community-based participatory research, action research, and similar methods.
  • Basic video production
  • Basic web design skills


Your Qualifications:
  • Proven experience successfully managing projects with multiple collaborators/stakeholders
  • Experience living, working, and/or volunteering in BIPOC communities in Boston
  • Relevant experience in activities specific to fellowship position of interest (listed above)
  • Demonstrates cultural humility and a posture of learning as it relates to diverse populations
  • Commitment to learning and growing in understanding of racial equity
  • Self-motivated with the ability to manage multiple tasks and work independently as needed
  • Demonstrates a collaborative work ethic
  • People of color and dual-language speakers (Spanish, Haitain Creole, Cape Verdean Creole, etc.) strongly encouraged to apply


Grade of Position: T01N

Scheduled Weekly Hours: 19.00

Hiring Range: $13,103.44 - $13,714.94
