SUMMARY

Provides analysis and maintenance of information security systems. 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Conducts information security risk assessments
  • Manages and monitors network firewalls, intrusion prevention, web security, email security, virtual private network, security information and event management system, log monitoring, public key infrastructure, Multi-Factor Authentication, and Single Sign-On technologies
  • Investigates intrusion attempts and maintains a secure College network
  • Administers and manages the electronic security systems for the College-wide network infrastructure
  • Recommends and implements new information security procedures to ensure College-wide compliance, and works with departments to ensure on-going compliance with all Federal, State, and local legislative requirements
  • Recommends software and hardware security tools to be installed College-wide
  • Operates and maintains tools to ensure a secure environment
  • Coordinates with local and federal law enforcement in information security investigations
  • Conducts necessary training to promote information security awareness
  • Provides information security news and alerts to the College-wide community
  • Coordinates activities with network technicians, enterprise application support and desktop support personnel
  • Performs daily, weekly, and monthly security monitoring tasks
  • Performs other duties as assigned

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE/TRAINING

  • Associate's degree in Computer Science, Information Security, IT and a minimum of five (5) years; OR a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Security, IT and a minimum of three (3) years of:  
    • Demonstrated professional experience in Information Technology
    • Demonstrated experience making sound decisions that affect a work unit or team
    • Demonstrated effectiveness in a role requiring dynamic and abstract problem solving methods in adaptive situations
  • Significant related experience may substitute for education

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS and ABILITIES

  • Possess working knowledge of IT-related Information Security concepts, practices and procedures with the ability to use in varied situations as it pertains to the departmental focus
  • Possess knowledge of cybersecurity and a desire to advance in the field
  • Possess understanding of federal, state and local laws applicable to the area of responsibility
  • Possess understanding of applicable industry regulations. E.g. Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA), Payment Card Industry (PCI), Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA)
  • Possess knowledge of preventative, detective and corrective controls that serve to protect information systems and data
  • Possess knowledge of firewall and intrusion
  • Possess knowledge of Windows and Linux operating system fundamentals
  • Possess knowledge of Command-line interfaces
  • Possess knowledge of networking fundamentals (TCP/IP)
  • Possess strong analytical, troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to effectively completely work assignments independently

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE/TRAINING

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Security, Information Technology or related field
  • Minimum of two years of experience in Information Security
  • Demonstrated experience with Microsoft Active Directory, Apple operating systems, Linux, Cisco IOS
  • Demonstrated experience with mobility wireless networks
  • Demonstrated experience with IP based communication: voice, data and video, including streaming technologies
  • Demonstrated experience in securing and maintaining network resources
  • Demonstrated experience in a programming language and/or scripting language
  • Demonstrated experience performing SQL queries
  • Demonstrated experience managing Single Sign-On (SSO)
  • Demonstrated experience on an incident response team or as a system network administrator on a large network
  • Security, Windows, Linux, and network certifications

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS and ABILITIES

  • Ability to travel to all campus locations within the Cuyahoga Community College sites, offsite meetings, vendor locations, and other business units

  • The work is performed in a normal, professional office environment; 
  • The work area is adequately lighted, heated and ventilated;
  • Typically, the employee may sit comfortably to perform the duties of the job and will perform repetitive motions with hands/fingers using a computer mouse and keyboard to type.  However, there may be some walking; standing; bending; carrying of light items such as papers, files, pamphlets, books, etc.;
  • Work may also require walking and standing in conjunction with travel to and attendance at meetings and conferences away from the worksite
