SUMMARY

Responsible for the planning, implementation, and quality of online technologies to support faculty.  Manages college-wide instructional design, development projects, and design team including Quality Matters implementation.  Provides leadership for accreditation, accessibility, compliance, and other online learning related considerations.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Assists with the development and implementation of college-wide Online Learning & Academic Technology initiatives
  • Manages daily operations in the Online Learning & Academic Technology department
  • Assists Executive Director with budget preparation, spending and management
  • Manages assigned staff, including recruiting, hiring, training, and evaluation
  • Manages the creation and upkeep for benchmarking quality courses
  • Oversees all aspects of quality course creation process/template
  • Fosters collaboration among disciplines, works with faculty, staff and administrator’s college-wide to achieve a shared vision for the College
  • Provides leadership to staff in the design, development, and delivery of technology-mediated learning
  • Works alongside with Faculty Development in the planning and delivery of faculty training
  • Conducts research, testing, and implementation of new and emerging technologies related to academic and instructional needs
  • Assists with grant opportunities relating to serving the needs of online learners
  • Supports online learning technical operations that impact operations and student success
  • Researches and stays current on contemporary issues relating to course development and quality assurance of technology-mediated and online learning, including copyright/intellectual property, online course design standards, and accessibility
  • Performs other duties as assigned

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE/TRAINING

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field
    • Significant related experience may substitute for education
  • Minimum of seven years of demonstrated significant operations, process, and project management experience in a role related to online education
  • Demonstrated experience hiring, training, developing, scheduling, supervising and managing the work performance of others
  • Demonstrated experience and familiarity with Blackboard or other LMS
  • Demonstrated experience forecasting, planning, maintaining, preparing and monitoring a business area’s budget
  • Demonstrated effectiveness in a role requiring dynamic and abstract problem solving methods in adaptive situations

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS and ABILITIES

  • Possess comprehensive knowledge of online accessibility, and the ability to use in complex, difficult, and/or unprecedented situations as it pertains to the departmental focus
  • Works accurately with a strong attention to detail and can see projects to fruition
  • Demonstrated experience as an instructional designer or course developer
  • Ability to effectively complete work assignments independently
  • Demonstrated advanced project management skills
  • Demonstrated intermediate proficiency with Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint
  • Ability to facilitate work teams comprised of internal and external stakeholders
  • Strong time management skills and ability to work effectively under the stress of timelines
  • Ability to facilitate top-level collaboration while managing sensitive issues
  • Ability to collaborate, negotiate and resolve conflicts on major projects
  • Ability to develop and maintain relationships with key contacts to enhance work flow and quality
  • Possesses excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills
  • Ability to collaborate with both internal and external regulatory agencies
  • Ability to work across organizational lines and effectively with various disciplinary faculty, program faculty, program managers, and deans
  • Possess sensitivity to respond appropriately to the needs of a diverse population

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE/TRAINING

  • Master’s Degree in educational technology, instructional technology, instructional design, or education
  • Demonstrated experience writing and securing grants
  • Demonstrated experience in the implementation of innovative learning models
  • Demonstrated experience working in a higher education environment
  • Demonstrated online teaching experience at the College level
  • Leadership and participation in national groups in online learning (Educause, WCET, OLC, etc.)

  • The work is performed in a normal, professional office environment; 
  • The work area is adequately lighted, heated and ventilated;
  • Typically, the employee may sit comfortably to perform the duties of the job and will perform repetitive motions with hands/fingers using a computer mouse and keyboard to type.  However, there may be some walking; standing; bending; carrying of light items such as papers, files, pamphlets, books, etc.;
  • Work may also require walking and standing in conjunction with travel to and attendance at meetings and conferences away from the worksite
