Key Responsibilities

JOB SUMMARY :
Within the Campus Network & Security ( CNS ) department, the IT Security Analyst leverages best practices to provide secure and reliable access to systems which support the academic and administrative operations of the College. This position is responsible for the implementation, maintenance and support of security controls and practices as they relate to systems, applications, policies, and user education. The IT Security Analyst investigates tools to identify and detect vulnerabilities and recommends solutions; analyzes and assesses risk to technology infrastructure or institutional reputation as a result of security incidents; examines available tools and processes for remediation; and tests for compliance with security policies and procedures.
The IT Security Analyst must work collaboratively within the Campus Technology Services organization and have well-developed customer service and communication skills.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES :
• Manage, monitor, analyze, and report on network firewalls, intrusion prevention, web security, email security, virtual private network, security information and event management system, log monitoring, and Multi-Factor Authentication.
• Monitor and restrict access to sensitive, confidential, or other high-security data.
• Manage vulnerability assessment and assist with securing systems and corresponding applications via hardening, permissions, patching, vulnerability remediation and upgrades.
• Serve on the IT Security Team and contribute as an active member to its goals.
• Contribute to business continuity and disaster recovery planning as it relates to technology.
• Research and evaluate emerging IT security solutions and practices.
• Work closely with the Help Desk and IT Security Team to provide customer support, incident response support, and corrective actions.
• Create technical documentation for systems, policies, and procedures.
• Consult with the IT Security Team to drive effective and reasonable policies and practices to secure protected and sensitive data and ensure information security and compliance with relevant legislation. Monitor compliance with and provide input to security policies, standards and procedures.
• Collaborate with the campus community to examine impacts of new technologies on the Institution’s overall information security and manage the vendor security assessment and review process.
• Maintain and monitor campus-wide information security training efforts. Create education and awareness programs and advise operating units at all levels on security issues, best practices, and vulnerabilities. Work with campus groups to build awareness and a sense of common purpose around security.
• Contribute to the development, planning and implementation of departmental long-term strategic goals.
• Create experiential learning opportunities for students, especially those who are employed within our department. Mentor our CNS student employees.
• Perform related duties as assigned.

Position Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree preferred. Knowledge and abilities normally acquired through a bachelor’s degree in a technology-related discipline or equivalent combination of education and work experience.
• Minimum of two years of experience in Information Security with demonstrated knowledge of IT risk management in a modern environment is required.
• Experience with mainstream hardware, systems, software, and tools as it pertains to risk management.
• Knowledge in key areas such as: Firewalls, IDS, IPS, VPN, Remote Access, Security Logging, Vulnerability Management, Security Incident Response, Penetration testing.
• Information Security Certifications, familiarity with NIST 800-171, and HECVAT is preferred.
• A demonstrated ability and commitment to following through on incident evaluation and response.
• Experience providing analysis and detecting trends in security events, alarms, and information from a large number of devices.
• Additional security expertise in endpoint security, including: Anti-Virus protection, device encryption, device management, patching, etc. Experience with EDR tools is a plus.
• Strong analytical, troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
• An understanding of legislature, trends, and technologies related to IT Security and Compliance.
• Demonstrated project management skills, such as attention to detail, organizing, and prioritizing tasks.
• Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
• Ability to be creative and exercise initiative.
• Must have well-developed customer service skills and be able to communicate effectively in writing and orally to technical and non-technical audiences.
• Strong sense of integrity and ability to confidentially and discreetly handle subject matters requiring privacy and sensitivity.

Supervision Required/Given

This position is supervised by the Director of Campus Network & Security ( CNS ) under general guidelines and direction. This person must work cooperatively and collaboratively with others.

Preferred Qualifications Physical Demands

• After hours and on-call support is required for emergencies and planned maintenance intervals.
• The position is primarily sedentary in a climate-controlled office with little exposure to environmental hazards; however, due to the campus environment there will be a need to go from building to building for meetings, and specialized department needs.
• The position may require lifting/pushing/carrying objects of at least 40 pounds.
