City Colleges of Chicago (CCC) , the largest community college system in Illinois, is made up of seven colleges and five satellite sites, providing more than 70,000 students each year access to a quality, affordable education.


Reporting to the Provost, theAssociate Vice Chancellor - Online Learningleads and supports the effective integration of instructional technologies in the delivery of distance learning (online and hybrid) for the district. The AVC - Online Learning is responsible for all aspects of online learning operations and facilitates the utilization and integration of emerging and relevant instruction and interactive learning technology tools in face-to-face, hybrid and online instruction to enhance student learning and engagement. Directs the coordination and use of district resources, programs and systems to aid in the successful interaction of faculty, staff and students. Performs related duties as required.


  • Supportsthe district to manage online and hybrid courses and programs. Implements processes for the effective integration of online and face-to-face academic programs and supports to ensure consistency and uniformity in the quality of programs, instruction and delivery.
  • Manages quality of online instruction to consistent standards determined in consultation with faculty and administrator stakeholders.
  • Supports online program operations, working with college administrators and faculty to ensure deadlines are met in developing semester class schedules for online course offerings, contracting and assignment of faculty, and creation of required course materials on the LMS.
  • Serves on a district online advisory team, participating in assessing the appropriateness of courses and programs to offer online, evaluating district priorities for online courses and initiatives, and ensuring alignment of curriculum and student learning outcomes with face-to-face courses.
  • Manages the provision of student support functions for online learning programs, coordinating district-wide with faculty and administrators to ensure student access to online tutoring, advising (webinars), writing support, and other student support services.
  • Oversees technical support functions for online learning programs. Works closely with the Office of Information Technology (OIT) and faculty to ensure students receive needed support with technical issues related to online course sessions (passwords, logins, assignment posting, exams, course materials). Ensures student access to online library resources and support.
  • Coordinates with the Office of Information Technology (OIT) in responding and working towards the timely resolution of technical issues relating to the delivery on online and web-based courses.
  • Works collaboratively with the faculty and administration at the 7 colleges in developing and implementing strategies to prepare students for online courses and ensure their success. Develops and reviews informational materials for use in student orientations.
  • Works proactively with college administrators and District Office personnel in developing and implementing strategies for providing professional development, training, and instructional design support to online faculty.
  • Facilitates responses to data requests from various agencies, and compiles data and prepares reports on performance of online learning programs required for professional accreditation, state certification and federal certification.
  • Participates in the ongoing evaluation of online courses and programs to monitor student learning outcomes. Monitors performance data to evaluate and assess online learning programs.
  • Remains abreast of best practices and new interactive technologies to increase student learning and engagement, and advises faculty, the online advisory team and college administrators on their implementation for improvement of current online operations.

  1. A Master’s degree from an accredited college or university in Education, Instructional Technology, or a related field.
  2. Five years of experience in implementing online and hybrid learning programs in a higher education environment
  3. Experience as a senior level administrator with a record of academic leadership in an institution of higher education
  4. Management experience in higher education
  5. A combination of education and experience may be taken into consideration based on the applicant’s credentials
  6. Experience working in a union setting preferred
  7. Demonstrated commitment to diversity and multiculturalism in one’s work experience.
  8. Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)

Chicago residency is required for all full-time employees within 6 months of hire.
