Communications and Programs Associate



Job Description:

The communications and programs associate works closely with the director of experiential programming (hereafter the director), others in the Dean’s office, and Williams School faculty and staff. The individual has primary responsibility for developing digital content strategy and communication plans about a variety of co-curricular programs. The associate will also play a key role in planning and executing these programs.

  • In partnership with the director, creates and manages content for the Williams School website, e-communications, and social media platforms:

    • Develops annual Williams School social media content calendar and executes strategic social media plans

    • In collaboration with communications staff, creates, curates and edits content for the Williams School website, print publications, email newsletters and social media channels, including feature stories, photo galleries, infographics, videos, and audio files.

    • Responsible for regular maintenance of the Williams School website. As a Williams School web expert, provides training and support for colleagues.

    • Attends regular planning meetings with university communications staff and director of experiential programming, serving as a strategic partner to propose ideas and develop strategies

  • Completes special projects for the Dean’s office, including slide decks for internal and external presentations and the Dean’s year-in-review digital project.

  • Works with the director to plan and promote special event programming for the Williams School. Examples of programs include the Executive-in-Residence program, on-campus summits, and field experiences such as the New York AdMarComm Trip.

    • Generates media related to these programs, such as trip guides, programs, social media posts, and post-event articles.

    • Designs and orders promotional materials for all such programming, such as posters, digital signage, postcards, etc.

    • Oversees online event management platforms, such as Sched, to ensure the best event experience for attendees and maximum engagement with the university.

    • When necessary, coordinates virtual events using Zoom and similar platforms.

    • Administers and analyzes post-event surveys when requested by the director.

    • Occasional overnight travel to staff out-of-town events and summits may be required.

  • Works with colleagues in University Advancement to manage online student, parent, and alumni registration for Williams School events and programs through Raiser’s Edge.

  • Associate is expected to attend and help direct Williams School programs and events as required by the deans and director, which may require working nights and/or weekends.

  • Additional related duties as assigned.



Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in communications or a related field required, with 3-5 years’ experience working in public relations, marketing, journalism, or a related field preferred, or a combination of education and experience from which a similar background would be achieved. Must possess sound editorial judgement and superior skills in writing for the web and social media management. Solid understanding of best practices in digital and mobile communications. Experience with social media management, web content management, and email marketing are required. Coordinator must be proficient in the Microsoft Office Suite, especially Word and Excel, and be willing to learn new software and technology. Proficiency with Adobe Creative Suite and Raisers’ Edge preferred. Experience with video technology and digital photography would be a plus. This is an independent position requiring the holder to manage multiple projects.

Types of Work: Sedentary work: Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time. Jobs are sedentary if walking and standing are required only occasionally and all other sedentary criteria are met.

Work Schedule: M-F, 8:30 – 4:30 with occasional nights and weekends required.
