This is a new position in the College of Visual and Performing Arts ( VPA ), charged with coordinating and expanding upon existing VPA initiatives in Los Angeles.
Based in Los Angeles, the VPA SULA Program Director will collaborate with department chairs and school directors from VPA’s six residential schools and departments (Art, Design, Drama, Music, Communication & Rhetorical Studies, and Transmedia) to design and deliver immersive academic programs and internship opportunities in Los Angeles. These will include semester-long, summer-long, and short-term opportunities and programs that will appeal to both currently enrolled students and to non-SU students.
The VPA SULA Director will be expected to oversee every aspect of VPA’s footprint in Los Angeles. This includes recruiting internal and external students, hiring and supervising faculty, managing internships, cultivating new and existing relationships for VPA in Los Angeles, and ensuring a positive student experience. It is expected that the VPA SULA Director will have a deep and current understanding of the professional artistic landscape in the greater LA area as it relates to the career interests of our students.
The VPA SULA Program Director is also expected to collaborate with the staff of existing and future SULA programs administered by other SU Schools and Colleges, including the Newhouse School of Public Communication.

Included in the College’s strategic plan are objectives that provide greater off-campus opportunities to VPA students, including NYC, LA and abroad. This position is critical to successfully implementing programming in LA.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree required, graduate degree or equivalent experience in related field preferred.

Job Specific Qualifications

• Demonstrated understanding of the professional landscape in the LA area, as it relates to the interests and aspirations of the College of Visual and Performing Arts students.

• Significant professional experience in their industry and enough cachet in the field to serve as a reliable conduit between the creative academic and private sectors.

• A background teaching or managerial/executive experience in one or more of VPA’s 25 undergraduate majors is desirable.

Responsibilities

• In tandem with college leadership, developing unique, immersive programs and curriculum for VPA Students studying in Los Angeles.

• Administering of internships.

• Cultivating new and existing relationships in Los Angeles for VPA .

• Hiring and supervising instructional staff.

• Engaging in student recruitment and orientation activities.
