Job Summary:

The School of Science at Marist College invites applications for a visiting position as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Biology, beginning August 2021. Minimum qualifications include a Ph.D. in Biology or closely related field and a strong interest in undergraduate education. Although prior teaching experience is desirable, the potential to develop superior teaching skills and continually develop as a teacher are essential. Postdoctoral experience is preferred. The successful candidate will teach the freshman biology class for science majors that emphasizes the foundations of cellular and molecular biology, and the upper-level class in Genetics. In addition, the candidate will also teach either an upper-level course with an associated laboratory component in their area of expertise or the senior capping class. Teaching responsibilities include 12 contact hours per week. The successful applicant will join a department characterized by a strong sense of community in which students are the central focus and faculty are both accessible and approachable. The ideal candidate is expected to collaborate with other faculty to provide an effective learning environment.

Minimum Qualifications: 

A Ph.D.in Biology or closely related field is required. Enthusiasm for teaching undergraduates and evidence of excellent teaching or potential to develop into an excellent teacher is required. Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills are required.

Essential Functions:

• Teach instruction of undergraduates, especially in the first semester foundational class (General Biology I), Genetics, and an upper-level courses in their area of expertise or the senior capstone class in biology

• Represent the School of Science and the Biology Department by participating in service activities and performing other duties as assigned (e.g., interacting with prospective students, attending student research presentations, etc.).

Preferred Qualifications:

A strong background in Genetics and basic cell biology is preferred.
