Job Summary

The Alternate Format Specialist is involved in the provision of alternate media to students with disabilities in accordance with state and federal law that assures students access to their academic
coursework. The alternate format specialist assists the Accessible Technology Coordinator
in the production of alternate media and review of software. The Alternate Format Specialist converts standard print material or inaccessible online content into an alternative format (electronic, tactile, braille and/or audio) that is accessible for the student. The Alternate Format Specialist maintains the online screening tool for review of software and assists the Coordinator in gathering necessary documents from publishers/vendors.

Required Qualifications

Associate degree or equivalent level of technology experience
Ability to work independently
Knowledge of PC operating systems
Knowledge of document scanning and alternative format conversion processes
Ability to format in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Power Point
Knowledge of Google Drive and OneDrive
Knowledge of process for formatting documents with navigational elements and descriptions of visual and graphical elements
Effective written and interpersonal communication skills
Strong organizational and time management skills
Detail oriented

Preferred Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree
Knowledge and understanding of alternate media methods and strategies
