Senior Systems Analyst

Additional Information

The Senior Systems Analyst position (100014), for the Financial Information Systems and Technology department, will support Business Affairs with primary focus for the Office of University Controller, Office of Accounts Payable, and Payroll and Employee Benefits departments. This includes supporting daily, weekly, monthly, and annual business processes for Banner Finance, Banner Human Resources and Banner Fixed Assets. In particular, this position will focus on how best to align and leverage Banner technology to real-time Business Affairs needs.

This position will work to design, create, and maintain reports using Argos and other reporting tools. In addition to Argos reporting, this position will maintain, and collaborate to design new data feeds between the Banner systems and third-party systems. To assure timely information, this position must quickly resolve unanticipated problems through expert understanding of the Banner systems and Business Affairs processes. This position will also provide critical secondary backup to all additional systems within the Financial Information Systems and Technology department.

Position Function

Research, advise, collaborate, develop computing solutions, and provide ongoing support to Business Affairs’ business processes and personnel within Ball State University. Design and implement business computing strategies that support and align with Ball State University goals.

Minimum Education

Bachelor’s degree with a demonstrated deep technical knowledge in the deployment and
management of enterprise technologies.

Minimum Experience

Five or more years of experience in a technical leadership or project management-system capacity at the enterprise project or group level; extensive experience at the senior engineering level designing, deploying, and managing systems.

Minimum Other

Excellent oral and written communication skills.

Authorization to work in the US

Candidates for searches must have current authorization to be employed in the U.S. without employer sponsorship.

Preferred Education

Bachelor’s degree in computer science, applied technology, MIS, or advanced technology field.

Preferred Experience

Experience with Ellucian’s Banner ERP system, including Banner Finance and/or Banner Human Resource. At least three years of experience with SQL, and complex SQL query generation. Experience with Evision’s Argos reporting tool.

Duties & Responsibilities



Job Duty

Support system analysis as needed; including define system requirements; analyze system problems; develop solutions; participate in implementation; train users; develop documentation; integrate information from multiple systems, etc.



Job Duty

Design and create financial reporting solutions for Business Affairs with primary focus on the Office of University Controller, Office of Accounts Payable, and Payroll and Employee Benefits.



Job Duty

Resolve data/informational issues within Banner ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning) and Oracle databases. Investigate and assist with the correction of data anomalies within the Banner systems with primary focus on the Office of University Controller, Office of Accounts Payable, and Payroll and Employee Benefits. Work with Ellucian support to log and resolve issues.



Job Duty

Provide in-depth, constant support for the Banner Ellucian Fixed Asset Solution for the Office of University Controller. Gain a full understanding of complicated table configuration and the integration with Banner Finance and Jaggaer to provide troubleshooting support and reporting.



Job Duty

Maintain and collaborate with Enterprise Information Systems with creating new inter-system financial integrations which will assure accuracy and timely data feeds with primary focus on the Office of University Controller, Office of Accounts Payable, and Payroll and Employee Benefits.



Job Duty

Collaborate with Business Affairs and Financial Information Systems and Technology team members to align technologies to business processes for improved timelines and efficiencies for the University.



Job Duty

Support Business Affairs with research and recommendations for timely system updates and patches for the Banner Finance and Banner Human Resource systems to reflect changes in governmental and regulatory requirements. Support the coordination and planning of the updates along with other departments, and with thorough testing prior to implementation.



Job Duty

Provide backup to all systems within the Financial Information Systems and Technology department. This includes: Time and Attendance system (currently Kronos), Campus Card Management System (currently CS Gold), Maintaining the Business Affairs Departmental File server which uses Symantec File Share Encryption (Powered by PGP Technology) for securing sensitive PII information, and all other systems maintained and controlled by the Financial Information Systems and Technology department.
