RISD’s Media Group is seeking a Video/Photo Editor to join its team of writers, designers, and marketers as they articulate, steward, and amplify the RISD brand. This new role is responsible for capturing the student experience and bringing the institution to life through video content and photography. They will hone our visual standards for video and photography across our marketing channels and manage our growing archive of assets.

The Video/Photo Editor role is multidisciplinary by nature; requiring a creative approach to storytelling, technical proficiency, and willingness to experiment in new mediums and formats. This individual will work closely with team members to concept, produce, shoot and edit video content and photography to support RISD's key marketing initiatives and campaigns via social media content series, short-form documentaries, and web content.

Essential Functions

  • Under the direction of the creative director, works with the creative team to concept, shoot and edit videos that spotlight the activities of RISD, its faculty, and students across its many platforms and campaigns.

  • Collaborates with communications colleagues within the Media Group and across the institution to develop strategic long­-term video content plans.

  • Provides a wide range of support in both field and studio photography, video production, and post-production. Also responsible for shooting day-to-day photography needs, such as headshots and event coverage.

  • Establishes and evolves our guidelines around video and photography across all channels in concert with our larger brand systems.

  • Manages and develops RISD’s pool of freelance photo and video talent. Connects other offices and departments to the appropriate vendors and assists in the briefing and production process.

  • Performs administrative duties including managing our archive of video and photo content, and maintaining our video cameras, audio, and lighting equipment.



Required Knowledge/Skills/Experience

  • A Bachelor’s degree and 4+ years of progressively responsible experience producing media and/or filming/editing, in a corporate, educational or agency setting or equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Deep understanding of documentary video production process and techniques.

  • Proficiency in a range of video-related software, including but not limited to, Final Cut Pro, Compressor, Premiere, After Effects, and Photoshop.

  • Experience with sound recording, mixing and design, color grading, or motion design is a plus.

  • Must thrive in cross-functional teams and exhibit excellent communication, organizational, and project management skills.
