Internal Communications Manager

Position Category: Staff - Full-Time

Summary:
Utah Valley University's Internal Communications Manager develops and executes all university-wide internal communications programs and materials, supporting more than 5,000 employees at all Utah Valley University campuses and extensions. The manager develops comprehensive, internal/employee communications strategies and plans, writes, produces, and distributes internal communications through various channels, determines the most effective tactics to engage employees in UVU's culture and mission, manages employee feedback systems, builds relationships with and determines the communication needs of key university stakeholders, creates timelines, calendars, and establishes and manages budgets.
Responsibilities:
  • Develop comprehensive, internal/employee communications strategic plans for multiple audiences, based on goal setting and success measurements.
  • Simultaneously manage, coordinate, and execute internal communications and engagement projects within stringent timelines and budget parameters.
  • Drive projects from concept to final delivery.
  • Develop innovative ways to obtain employee feedback and engagement.
  • Create surveys and metrics that identify employee data patterns used in communication planning.
  • Demonstrate writing and proofreading excellence by consistently crafting high-quality content and materials with appropriate writing styles.
  • Monitor communication messaging and content for accuracy, quality, and HR compliance.
  • Develop strong relationships and build credibility at all levels of the organization.
  • Partner, counsel, and work effectively with leadership teams, deans, department heads, Human Resources leaders, and various stakeholders/clients.
  • Make recommendations to partners and stakeholders based on research and observations.
  • Develop employee e-mail and text programs, and provide comprehensive maintenance of intranet, postings, digital and social media.
  • Integrate new technologies and communications channels.
  • Keep information confidential
  • Create and manage editorial calendars, timelines, and annual budget.

Required Qualifications:
Graduation from an accredited institution with a bachelors degree in communications, journalism, public relations, or a closely related major. Excellent writing skills very helpful.


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Track record of building and scaling an internal communications program at a complex, matrixed organization.
  • Demonstrated ability to build strategies aligned with institutional goals and culture.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with attention to grammar, spelling, detail, and accuracy.
  • Proficient in Adobe Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator, and Premier, and on a variety of social platforms, including Instagram and Facebook.
  • Proficient in web-based platforms such as WordPress with basic knowledge of HTML, and experience in digital and mobile communications.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced and ever-changing environment.
  • Strong sense of initiative and ability to work under pressure on multiple projects with tight deadlines.


Preferred Qualifications:


Physical Requirements:
General working hours M-F 8 am - 5 pm.
Some nights and weekends are possible.
Occasionally will need to attend special events.
Be on-call for crisis communication situations.

Pay Range: $44,632 - $59,583
