Scope of Job:
The University of Texas-Rio Grande Valley School of Social Work is seeking applications for full-time, tenured positions at the rank of Associate or Full Professor to begin fall 2021. The successful candidates will be expected to possess a record of scholarship, teaching and service commensurate with the rank sought. Qualified applicants are expected to teach in both BSW and MSSW programs in at least two curriculum areas and contribute to the development of a doctoral program. Faculty will also be required to teach in a variety of settings incorporating technology and student engaged pedagogies to maximize student success. Because UTRGV is a distributed campus, faculty may be required to teach online or hybrid courses or to teach at different locations. Faculty members are expected to actively engage in research/scholarship and seek external funding. Faculty members are encouraged to engage in basic, applied and/or translational research that addresses critical community and state needs. Service to the School, Health Affairs Division, University, community, and professional organizations/discipline is an integral part of the faculty member's responsibilities. UTRGV faculty will be expected to demonstrate a strong commitment to scholarly work, student success and to advancing the university, school, and program missions and are committed to UTRGV's strategic plan, vision, mission, values and core priorities (https://www.utrgv.edu/strategic-plan/).


Minimum Qualifications:
Qualifications for Associate Professor: Master’s in Social Work from a CSWE-accredited social work program, 2+ years of practice experience, and social work licensure or license-eligibility in Texas; earned doctorate in social work or a related field; record of research and scholarship, teaching, service, community engagement, and administration commensurate with the rank sought; evidence of teaching effectiveness; record of sustained research and publication commensurate with rank; record of grant writing with success in securing external grants commensurate with rank; record of peer-reviewed presentations at social work professional conferences including other related professional conferences commensurate with rank; evidence of university and community service commensurate with rank. Candidates must meet the institutional requirements for tenure to be considered for a position at the rank of Associate Professor.

Qualifications for Full Professor: Master’s in Social Work from a CSWE-accredited social work program, 2+ years of practice experience, and social work licensure or license-eligibility in Texas; earned doctorate in social work or a related field; record of research and scholarship, teaching, service, community engagement, and administration commensurate with the rank sought; evidence of teaching effectiveness; record of sustained research and publication commensurate with rank; record of grant writing with success in securing external grants commensurate with rank; record of peer-reviewed presentations at social work professional conferences including other related professional conferences commensurate with rank; evidence of university and community service commensurate with rank. Candidates must meet the institutional requirements for tenure to be considered for a position at the rank of Full Professor.


Discipline Specific Required Qualifications:


Preferred Qualification:
Social work licensure or license-eligibility in Texas; teaching expertise in advanced clinical practice or advanced macro practice; experience in online teaching and distance education programs; bilingual (English and Spanish); mixed methods background and strong quantitative skills; research at the intersection of social work and public/population health with a blend of micro and macro issues; expertise in some of the areas salient in the School’s growing research portfolio, including health and behavioral health in Hispanic/Latinx communities; gerontological social work; sustainability; U.S.-Mexico border issues; and global issues; knowledge of the cultural, social and economic characteristics of the United States/Mexico border region; international experience.

Additional Information:
UTRGV is a distributed institution. As such and as assigned, the position may
require presence at multiple locations throughout the Rio Grande Valley. Work is
performed primarily in a general office environment. This position is security sensitive
and thereby subject to the provisions of the Texas Education Code
§51.215. The retirement plan for this position is Teacher Retirement System of
Texas (TRS), subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and at least
135 days in length. This position has the option to elect the Optional Retirement
Program (ORP) instead of TRS, subject to the position being 40 hours per week
and at least 135 days in length.

Texas law requires faculty members whose primary language is not English to
demonstrate proficiency in English as determined by a satisfactory paper-based
test score of 500 (computer-based of 173 or internet-based of 61) on the Test of
English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) or a satisfactory test score of 6.0 on the
