Assistant Director for International Student Programs
Penn State Harrisburg, a comprehensive College of The Pennsylvania State University, is excited to welcome applications and nominations for the position of Assistant Director for International Student Programs.
Reporting to the Senior Director of Student Services, the Assistant Director for International Student Programs is a leadership position responsible for advancing initiatives that enhance a thriving international student population. This position develops, implements, and monitors programs and events that assist in the engagement, academic success, and retention of international students, and offers guidance and support to these populations. In this position, you will lead strategic initiatives that improve the internationalization of our campus and promote intercultural learning. You will also utilize a comprehensive, educative approach to embrace the critical role of diversity, equity, and inclusion in delivering co-curricular experiences, building a positive campus community, and supporting data-driven initiatives that improve student success.
Foundational roles for this position include but are not limited to:
- Supervision and leadership of the International Student
Programs office including program, budget and personnel oversight
(professional and student staff members)
- Oversight of the Global Program Ambassador and Global Lion
Mentor programs and quality supervision of student employees
serving the office
- Ensure international students experience quality transitions to
and orientation within Penn State Harrisburg
- Provide support for student programming and activities that
enhance intercultural learning across campus
- Maintain vibrant community connections with local civic groups
and international alumni
- Facilitate and provide trainings to students and the campus
community on applicable cultural competency programs
- Manage International Student Gift Fund (donors) and
International Student Emergency Fund
- Partner with the Senior Director of Student Services in the
development of intercultural learning strategic
initiatives
- Serve as a leadership team member in Student Affairs and
participate in College and University-wide committees and task
forces
- Partner with the members of the Student Affairs leadership team
and appropriate administrative units within the college and across
the university to develop and advance student development
initiatives
This newly created position will have the opportunity to leverage the college's resources to advance our strong commitment to international students. Penn State Harrisburg has the second largest international student population by number and largest by percentage of all Penn State campuses. Intercultural programming has annually been amongst the most popular events on our campus and our community's engagement in this work is deep and broad.
This position typically requires a Master's degree or higher in counseling, higher education administration, college student personnel or a related degree plus 5 years of related experience working in intercultural learning and international student development, or an equivalent combination of education and related experience. Other qualifications that the successful candidate will preferably have are:
- Record of excellence and experience in building, delivering,
and advancing institutional programs and activities
- Experience in advising and counseling international students
and international student organizations
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Skill in working collaboratively with others and in developing
professional networks
- Experience in communicating with various stakeholders and
presenting to large groups in various forums
- Ability to support the college's broad range of activities and
initiatives
