Howard Community College is recruiting for a Director of Student Life to supervise the development of college-wide Student Life programs and events including student leadership development, student trips, co-curricular program development, special events and all other activities as they pertain to the Student Life area in accordance with policies and procedures established by the College.

Other duties include:

  • Supervises the staff of the Wellness Center.
  • Develops and manages several budgets for Student Life.
  • Provides leadership to facilitate a Student Life Team environment.
  • Works very closely with student leaders and student workers.
  • Collaborates with students, faculty, staff, and administrators when planning activities and programs.
  • Administers staff and student development and training programs, including faculty club advisor training and student orientation program training for faculty.
  • Identifies and develops programming strategies and evaluation systems of students, faculty, and division chairpersons.
  • Serves on several steering committees and recruits students to serve on specific standing committees.
  • Additional responsibilities include data collection, management, analysis, reporting, and improvement implementations.
  • Oversees the management of all grants received in the Student Life area, including Wellness.
  • Oversees the operation, staffing and equipment servicing of the student Game Room.
  • Serves as an ad hoc member of the college's Diversity Committee.

Requirements:

  • Master's degree in education, student personnel development, social science or related field.
  • Three years of related experience with demonstrated increased level of responsibility.
  • Strong Microsoft Office computer skills and software knowledge. Knowledge of the Internet and on-line applications is strongly preferred.
  • Extensive experience in Student Life department within a community college setting preferred.
  • Extensive budgetary experience is required.
  • Familiarity of local, state and federal regulations pertaining to Drug and Alcohol Use on Campus, copyright/ film right regulations and all FERPA requirements.
  • Ability to use own initiative to create, identify and implement programs in conjunction with Division Chairs.
  • Demonstrated extensive experience in the effective planning, implementation, and assessment of special events/programs.
  • Exceptional organizational skills necessary for the coordination of special projects which require meticulous accuracy and attention to details.
  • Must have a proven track record of innovative supervising techniques and supervisory excellence.
  • Extensive knowledge of Leadership Training tools and methods such as Continuous Quality Improvement, Total Quality Management, etc.
  • Ability to prioritize and effectively handle a multitude of concurrent projects and programs while providing exemplary customer service.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (including public speaking) necessary for positive interaction with widely diverse populations.
  • Demonstrated experience in representing the college at community events, to outside agencies, at local and national conferences or during the planning of community events.

Additional Information:

Hours Per Week: 37.5
Work Schedule: 8:30 am to 5:00 pm, some evenings and weekends required
Compensation: $84,579 plus excellent medical & dental, tuition reimbursement and paid leave
Grade: 20
FLSA Status: Exempt

As a participating member of the Maryland Retirement and Pension System, HCC offers two retirement options: The Pension, which requires a 7% employee contribution and The ORP, a 403(b) with a 7.25% employer contribution only. Employees in positions that do not require a bachelor's degree must participate in The Pension. Employees that possess a bachelor's degree and hold professional positions that require a bachelor's degree may choose to participate in either The Pension or The ORP.
