Senior Instructional Designer & Technical Training Developer (17144)


The Senior Instructional Designer & Technical Training Developer will collaborate with the Office of the Vice Provost and Chief Online Officer (VPCOO) Academic Technology, and the Center for Teaching, Research and Learning (CTRL) to support faculty in creating quality learning experiences for students. Responsibilities include scheduling and overseeing training plans, providing one-on-one consultations with faculty, supporting university workshops, and developing training materials.

Essential Functions
  1. Work with faculty to design effective, pedagogically sound online, hybrid, and web-assisted courses for delivery through Canvas. Assist in the creation of online assignments, activities and assessments to ensure alignment with the pedagogical objectives for the course. In consultation with faculty, review, edit, reorganize course content, and identify opportunities for multimedia elements throughout each lesson developed for the course.
  2. Provide one-on-one and group consultations with faculty and facilitate or support workshops to assist faculty in all aspects of teaching including, but not limited to, syllabus development, aligning learning outcomes with assessments, using third party tools, and incorporating innovative and evidence-based pedagogies. Plan and implement an effective training curriculum by developing training materials such as summary guides, videos, and presentations. Create workshop registration links, surveys, support sign-up sheets, trainer's scripts, etc. Work closely with school embedded instructional designers and faculty liaisons at each school/college to communicate and implement workshop plans.
  3. Conduct ServiceNow portal maintenance for Learning Support Services, including updating articles, announcements and instructional designer contracts as needed.
  4. Promote inclusive pedagogy and universal design in learning. Promote and encourage faculty to develop their courses using the Eagle Online Excellence (EOE) rubric and pass the certification process.
  5. Stay current with recent research, trends, and advancements in pedagogy, educational technologies, and other issues related to the design and implementation of online/hybrid courses through reading articles, researching information, participating in seminars, conferences, and then recommend and work with faculty, and other course authors, in adopting and implementing current strategies and technologies related to online/hybrid delivery. Maintains functional competency with media design and creation skills, LMS tools, and associated educational technologies to perform assigned duties.

Required Education and Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in Learning Design, Instructional Systems, Instructional Design, Adult Education, Educational Psychology or a related field.
  • 1-3 years of relevant experience

Preferred Education and Experience
  • Master's degree or equivalent in Learning Design, Instructional Systems, Instructional Design, Adult Education, Educational Psychology or a related field.

Additional Eligibility Qualifications
  • Working knowledge of instructional design, course development, and technology associated with creating online and blended learning solutions.
  • In-depth knowledge of best practices in instructional design, the principles of instructional learning theories and instructional design models to identify and test existing and emerging technologies, and appropriately apply them to meet the intended learning objectives.
  • Ability to develop instructional content compliant with Shareable Content Object Reference Model (SCORM) and Section 508 Accessibility requirements.
  • Skill using computer programs in the development of training curriculum including word processing, presentation software and learning platform technologies (for example Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Adobe Acrobat, Photoshop, Articulate, and Captivate).
  • Demonstration of highly effective skills in verbal and written communication.
  • Ability to build relationships and trust.
