Manager - Facilities Services

Position Category: Staff - Full-Time

Summary:
Under the direction of the Assistant Director-Custodial Services, is responsible for managing, supervising, and evaluating facilities support services in the Custodial and Facilities department for UVU. Responsible for organizing and managing the activities of various groups and specialized tasks such as general building maintenance, custodial equipment repair, inventory and purchasing of facilities supplies, furniture maintenance and repair, hard surface flooring, coordinating the moving and set-up of furnishings, inspecting facilities to determine repair needs, and other various tasks. Plays a key role in providing customer service and support for various facilities requests that generally fall outside the scope of facilities operations. Promotes a team mentality within Facilities Services to develop, support,
and implement the goals and objectives of the Campus Services Department.

Required Qualifications:
Graduation from an accredited institution with a bachelor’s degree plus three to five years of related experience, OR an equivalent combination of education and/or experience related to the Summary of Duties totaling at least seven years. Must have a valid driver’s license.


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Knowledge of general building maintenance processes and methods.
  • Knowledge of basic electricity, carpentry, plumbing, and other technical trades.
  • Knowledge of cleaning equipment, products, chemicals, and solvents.
  • Knowledge of equipment maintenance and repair.
  • Supervisory skills, particularly the ability to instruct others are required.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage and motivate a team is required.
  • Exceptional customer service and interpersonal skills, as well as verbal and written communication skills are required.
  • Familiarity with public access requirements concerning individuals with disabilities (current Americans with Disabilities Act * (ADA) standards for Accessible Design) is preferred.
  • Ability to maintain composure when dealing with difficult situations and/or individuals.
  • Ability to understand and follow safety procedures and ability to instruct others in their proper application.
  • Ability to supervise and train employees, to include organizing, prioritizing, and scheduling work assignments.
  • Ability to pay close attention to detail; keep and maintain accurate and detailed reports and records.
  • Ability to foster a cooperative work environment.

Physical Requirements:
Considerable physical activity. Requires heavy physical work; heavy lifting, pushing, or pulling required of objects up to 50 pounds. -Physical work is a primary part (more than 70%) of job.
-Work environment involves some exposure to hazards or physical risks, which require following basic safety precautions.
-Work may involve moderate exposure to unusual elements, such as extreme temperatures, dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, unpleasant odors, and/or loud noises.
