Foundation Operations Manager

Pratt Institute

Pratt Institute is seeking an Operations Manager who is a creative problem-solver with excellent communication and organizational skills to support the efforts of the Foundation Department by providing safe, efficient, and well-maintained facilities, including managing a staff of three technicians. The successful candidate will provide management, purchasing and sourcing of equipment and materials for the Foundation classrooms, labs and shops to ensure the smooth operation of classes for 600+ students and 70+ adjunct and full-time faculty. If you can demonstrate the ability to successfully manage shops and studios, have experience handling budgets, and supervising staff in a college-level workshop environment, then we want to hear from you!

Key Essential Duties include the following:
  • Supervise and support Foundation technicians; ensure that technicians train students and faculty on the proper use of equipment
  • Organization and oversight of Foundation Department material storage and tool spaces
  • Work with technicians to hire undergraduate and graduate students for work-study, student work, and graduate assistantship positions
  • Manage existing online scheduling systems for classrooms, labs, and shops; help students and faculty navigate systems when necessary
  • Works with the department chair, facilities, and technician staff on capital budgets and projects and equipment upgrades, keeping in mind the needs of the department as a whole to support operations for students and faculty
  • Work with the department chair and technicians to monitor financial activities related to operations, materials and equipment and student worker budgets
  • Hires and schedule Foundation department models in collaboration with the Visualization and Representation Coordinator and Assistant to the Chair
  • Assist in the coordination of the Draw-a-thon, a Foundation Department spring event; and assist in the coordination of Foundation Open Drawing events in collaboration with the Visualization and Representation Coordinator and VR faculty
