Overview

The Assistant Dean/Director is responsible for the overall administration of the program, facility, and operations of the Center for Gender and Sexuality and serves as an institutional resource about womxn/femme issues, issues of gender and gender equality, gender identities, LGBTQIA+ issues, and diverse sexual orientations. The Assistant Dean/Director oversees operational functions and resources (i.e., professional, physical, informational, financial, etc.) and provides programming, education, advising, support, and advocacy for students. The Assistant Dean/Director provides institutional leadership in creating supportive environments for womxn and LGBTQIA+ communities and students at-large; partners with offices and senior administration to address discrimination, safety, and policy concerns; and serves as a resource on broad diversity, equity, inclusion and social justice issues. The Assistant Dean/Director works with other offices and departments to develop and implement strategies to improve campus climate and a sense of belonging for students. The Assistant Dean/Director contributes to the overall mission and efforts of the Office of Diversity and Inclusion-Campus Life.



Responsibilities

  • Oversee and manage the day-to-day operations of the CGS facility and its staff; Lead the Center's overall programming and services designed to support a safe and welcoming campus for women/femme/LGBTQIA+ students, staff, faculty, alumni, and visitors
  • Provide leadership in the research, design, implementation, and assessment of the Center's programs and services
  • Conduct strategic planning and programmatic visioning efforts; Establish and maintain administrative structures and procedures internal to the CGS and oversee adherence to University policies and procedures
  • Serve as a campus resource and internal expert about womxn/femme/LGBTQIA+ issues and participate in campus-wide leadership discussions about issues affecting women and LGBTQIA+ people
  • Provide one-on-one advising to students (themes include: identity exploration, coming out, transitioning, family, relationships, discrimination, and mental health topics) and ensure the Center is viewed as safe and supportive environment
  • Lead campus-wide initiatives to explore and inform campus community about the impact of gender and sexual inequalities on campus
  • Support the Center staff in developing programs designed to meet educational, social, and interpersonal needs of the Princeton campus community
  • Work collaboratively with and provide support for other campus programs and offices
  • Monitor all departmental expenditures and plan budget projections to reflect programmatic priorities
  • Assist the Dean for Diversity and Inclusion with the development and implementation of campus education projects
  • Supervise full-time professional staff and undergraduate/graduate student staff
Qualifications

ESSENTIAL

  • Five-seven years of experience with programming and outcomes assessment/evaluation
  • Significant knowledge of womxn/femme/gender identity and LGBTQIA+ issues of concern related to lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, questioning, intersex, and asexual and the intersection of other identities
  • Significant knowledge and experience serving and supporting womxn/femme/LGBTQIA/students of color/transgender and gender
  • Experience working with college students in a university setting
  • Strong interpersonal skills as a well as a demonstrated ability to work as part of a team and to interact effectively with students, faculty, and other administrators
PREFERRED

  • Five to seven years relevant experience developing programs and facilitating training on a wide range of diversity and inclusion topics, concepts, and social constructs, etc.
  • Extensive knowledge of D&I topics, including current research, national trends in higher education and theoretical models • Ability to customize training, read one's audience, and adapt creatively to the needs of a diverse group of students
