Chapman University’s Schmid College of Science and Technology
seeks applications for part-time general biology and microbiology
lab instructors who have the ability to teach undergraduate
students, beginning August 2021.

Qualifications
- A Ph.D. or M.S. degree in biology or related area is
required.
- University or community college teaching experience, specifically
with general biology courses.
- Ability to communicate clearly and effectively orally and in
writing.

Responsibilities
Biology 204 Lab
General biology lab topics include an introduction to biomolecules,
diffusion and osmosis, enzymatic reactions, photosynthesis,
cellular respiration, and mitosis and meiosis. This course is taken
by science majors in the fields of biology, biochemistry, applied
human physiology, health science and pre-pharmacy. Instructors will
teach an assigned 4-hour lab section once per week throughout the
semester. Responsibilities each week include preparing a quiz,
presenting a 30-45 minute pre-laboratory lecture about the lab
material, instructing and guiding students in correct laboratory
technique and safety during the execution of an inquiry-based
laboratory experiment, holding office hours, and grading all
assignments submitted by the students. Additionally, the instructor
will write a midterm and final exam for this laboratory. The
possible general biology laboratory section times are weekdays
8:00-11:50 AM, 1:00-4:50 PM or 6:00-9:50 PM, depending on
availability. The instructor must be available to attend a once per
week general biology instructor meeting and a half day orientation
at the beginning of the semester.
Biology 317 Lab
This course is taken by science majors in the fields of biology,
biochemistry, applied human physiology, health science and
pre-pharmacy. Instructors will teach an assigned 4-hour lab section
once per week throughout the semester. Responsibilities each week
include preparing a quiz, presenting a 30-45 minute pre-laboratory
lecture about the lab material, instructing and guiding students in
correct laboratory technique and safety during the execution of an
inquiry-based laboratory experiment, holding office hours, and
grading all assignments submitted by the students. Additionally,
the instructor will write a final exam for this laboratory. The
possible general microbiology laboratory section times are Tuesday
1:00-4:50 PM and Wednesday 8:00-11:50 AM, 1:00-4:50 PM. The
instructor must be available to attend a once per week general
microbiology instructor meeting and a half day orientation at the
beginning of the semester.
