Johns Hopkins Engineering for Professionals (EP) is seeking aLearning Support Specialistto serve in its Center for Digital and Media Initiatives. EP is the division of the Whiting School of Engineering that serves online and part-time students across 22 engineering and applied science master’s degree and certificate programs.

The Learning Support Specialist will provide technical support for all aspects of course delivery, including assisting with configuration and implementation of AV technology into learning spaces. We maintain technology in dozens of classrooms and studios across two campuses: Homewood and the Applied Physics Laboratory.

Our selected candidate must have a proven record of handling numerous complex tasks while balancing the needs of multiple audiences. We are seeking an exceptionally responsible, reliable person with experience working with instructors in a high-pressure course delivery setting.

This position reports to the Multimedia Production Coordinator.

Specific Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Provide technical support for all aspects of classroom technology.
  • Responsible for technical setup and operation of all equipment, scheduling use of equipment, and maintenance of the equipment.
  • Arrange for use of audiovisual equipment for deans, departmental chairs, faculty, staff, students, and special events planners.
  • Assist faculty, staff, students, and visiting lecturers with equipment.
  • Provide equipment delivery, set-up and instruction. Set-up may include arranging chairs, tables, temporary staging, computer equipment, electronic display equipment, temporary lighting, skirting, and curtains.
  • Maintain supply inventory and order supplies accordingly.
  • Perform preventative maintenance and cleaning on audiovisual equipment. Make minor repairs as required.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma/GED.
  • Some related experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working directly with faculty in the delivery of courses.
  • Experience working with cross-functional teams including instructional designers, media producers, and technologists to deliver a successful course or event.
  • Experience with Blackmagic products.
  • Experience with common broadcast production equipment (e.g., network switchers, PTZ cameras).
  • Experience using Camtasia and Adobe Premiere.
  • Experience working in a learning management system.

Level of Independent Decision Making:

  • High level of independent decision making.

Special Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Experience using Microsoft Office 365.
  • Reliable transportation.
  • Reliable, self-directed person who performs well in a high-pressure environment.

Starting Salary Range: $15.26 - $26.73/hr (commensurate with experience)

The pre-employment physical for positions in clinical areas, laboratories, working with research subjects, or involving community contact requires documentation of immune status against Rubella (German measles), Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Varicella (chickenpox), Hepatitis B and documentation of having received the Tdap (Tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis) vaccination. This may include documentation of having two (2) MMR vaccines; two (2) Varicella vaccines; or antibody status to these diseases from laboratory testing. Blood tests for immunities to these diseases are ordinarily included in the pre-employment physical exam except for those employees who provide results of blood tests or immunization documentation from their own health care providers. Any vaccinations required for these diseases will be given at no cost in our Occupational Health office.
