Position Summary:

The Systems Administrator and Desktop Support Specialist provides multidisciplinary information technology (IT) services to support complex IT functionality according to School's and UW Veterinary Care's business goals.

This person will work under the general direction of the Director of Information Technology.

Degree and Area of Specialization:

Bachelor's Degree in Information Technology preferred

Minimum Years and Type of Relevant Work Experience:

A minimum of three years relevant experience in information technology.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and experience:
Experience with IT project management required.
Ability to prioritize work according to current business needs.
Experience working with Windows Desktop and Server Administration required.
Experience with networking configuration and concepts.
Experience with system security administration.
Knowledge of and experience with virtualization technology (Microsoft, VMware or Citrix)
Knowledge of and experience with Windows and Mac Desktop support.
Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Microsoft Windows Server 2008, 2012, and 2019 including Active Directory, DNS, Hyper-V, and
SCCM
Microsoft SQL Server
Experience interfacing computers with scientific instruments
Experience working in higher education directly with students, faculty and staff
Experience in Human or Veterinary Healthcare practice management software
Experience with educational technology systems like Canvas, Kaltura, or similar
Ability to develop and conduct flexible training for people with widely-differing technical
knowledge
Experience with web server/site administration (WordPress)
Experience with Adobe Creative Suite for web and graphic design layout; and mobile technology
support for iOS and Android

Additional Information:

The UW School of Veterinary Medicine (SVM) has earned a reputation as one of the top schools of veterinary medicine in America. Located in several facilities on and near the scenic University of Wisconsin-Madison campus, the school houses a modern veterinary medical teaching hospital, UW Veterinary Care; high-tech equipment; and high-quality lab and classroom space for teaching and research. Within the school is the Information Technology department, which provides exceptional technology support for the SVM and it's satellite offices. The current satellite facilities include Biotron, Charmany Instructional Facility (Mineral Point Road), Influenza Research Institute (IRI in UW Research Park), the IRI Annex, and the Robert P. Hanson Biomedical Sciences Lab.

The Information Technology department offers a "walk-in" support service model, which provides direct face-to-face service and support. The team also offers services through a Service Desk model, and through Information Technology project management. This position requires great attention to detail and a very high level of customer service.

The School and the Information Technology department offer a relaxed, yet professional, working atmosphere and great opportunities to work with emerging technology.
