Position Summary:

Under the limited supervision of the Manager of the Systems and Network Control Center Group (SNCC) within the Systems Engineering and Operations (SEO) Department of the UW-Madison Division of Information Technology, the Network Operations Center Technician monitors critical network and hosted systems elements and engages in proactive network and hosted systems monitoring, responds to incidents and notifies and escalates to appropriate staff, performs Hostmaster duties, limited storage systems housekeeping and Enterprise Resource Planning support work.

Minimum Years and Type of Relevant Work Experience:

Knowledge and Skills Required
* Operational knowledge or equivalent education of:
- Gigabit Ethernet network hardware, architecture, design, and operation
- Local Area Network and Wide Area Network/ATM hardware, architecture, design, and operation
- Various UNIX, Linux and Windows Operating Systems
- Network troubleshooting tools such as Ping and Traceroute
- (For Senior level placement-professional experience required).
*Possess a customer service oriented attitude with service partners, a commitment to equity, inclusivity and diversity within the workforce and effective interpersonal, written and oral communications skills.

Knowledge and Skills Preferred
* Operational knowledge of application monitoring tools such as HP OpenView Operations and Nagios
* Operational knowledge of a formal incident tracking system such as Cherwell ITSM Software
* Operational knowledge of automated batch processing tools such as Tivoli Workload Scheduler/Tivoli OPC.

Additional Information:

Please note that successful applicants must be authorized to work in the United States without need of employer sponsorship, on or before the effective date of appointment.

The candidate selected for this position will initially perform a combination of on-site and remote work subject to an approved telecommuting agreement, which is reviewed and approved annually. Remote work requires successful candidates to possess their own high-speed internet and phone to perform the work on a University provided computer. In the future, you may have an option for some remote work, however, that is still being determined.

We are hiring two positions, please review the work schedule for both. This position is a combination of third and second shifts, weekends and holidays included. Pay differentials available per campus policy.

Position two schedule is: Sat-Sun 7:30pm -7:30am and Th-F 3:30pm-11:30pm

Hours may include holidays. Some overtime may be required.

Night and weekend differential policies apply for these positions.
