Job Summary

The Assistant Director for Fraternity & Sorority Life (FSL) is an exempt-professional position reporting to the Director of FSL. This position serves to support Fraternity & Sorority Life which includes general programming, student leader advising, and student involvement efforts for the CU Boulder Fraternity & Sorority Community. The Assistant Director for FSL leads all aspects of the advisement of the university-recognized CU Interfraternity Council. The position is also responsible for coordinating trainings for chapter and community leaders, chapter advisory boards, and house directors, will manage the annual chapter accreditation program, and will assist the Director with assessment and planning. Additionally, this person will also directly supervises one full-time exempt-professional. This is a position that interacts with all levels of staff and may work evening and weekend hours.

Who We Are

Fraternity & Sorority Life offers and coordinates a variety of programs, activities and services for members that are designed to ensure quality education and social experiences both inside and outside of the classroom. All services and resources are provided to chapter officers, members and advisors in addition to the councils that govern the community, inter/national headquarters representatives, alumni, community officials and parents of fraternity and sorority members as well as potential members.

What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be

  • Supervise the Coordinator for Fraternity & Sorority Life.
  • Advise the university-recognized CU Interfraternity Council (CUIFC) and assist the Director of FSL in expansion and community development.
  • Educate council/chapter leaders, advisory boards, and house directors on University, FSL, and council-related policies and procedures. Work with the Coordinator for FSL to build curriculum and present FSL development workshops and event-planning trainings as needed.
  • Coordinate the activities of the Office FSL which includes open houses, information sessions, and recognition events. Advise student leaders in their execution of recruitment efforts and community-wide events including but not limited to Homecoming and Greek Week.
  • Coordinate the annual chapter accreditation program, Boulder Values, which includes chapter self-assessments, data collection, and regular chapter check-ins.
  • Help the Director with planning, competency development, program assessment, budget preparation, and policy/procedure review.
  • Represent the needs of students in FSL chapters and councils to campus and community partners through participation on committees, collaborative trainings, and programmatic partnerships that serve to strengthen FSL.
  • Other related duties as assigned including staffing additional department and campus-wide events, representing the FSL community in regional and national forums, and relevant committee work.


What We Can Offer

Starting salary is $60,000.

What We Require

  • A Master’s degree from an accredited college or university, equivalent combination of education and experience may substitute.
  • Three years experience in providing administrative, managerial, and programming oversight for Fraternity and Sorority Life or a related field.
  • Three years experience in advising fraternity/sorority chapters and/or governing boards.
  • Minimum of 1-2 years of experience with large university recruitment.
  • Minimum of 2 years of proven experience working with program assessment.

  • Organizational and Human Resources - includes knowledge, skills, and dispositions used in the management of human capital, financial, and physical resources.
  • Assessment, Evaluation and Research (AER) - focuses on the ability to craft, conduct, critique, and use various AER methodologies and the results acquired from them, to utilize AER processes and their results to inform practice, and to shape the political and ethical climate surrounding AER processes and uses in higher education.
  • Advising and Supporting - addresses the knowledge, skills, and dispositions related to providing advising and support to individuals and groups through direction, feedback, critique, referral, and guidance.


What We Would Like You To Have

  • A Master’s degree in College Student Personnel, Higher Education Administration, Student Affairs, or related field.
  • Four years or more experience in providing administrative and managerial oversight for university programming or student activities, or equivalent operations.
  • Four years or more experience advising fraternity/sorority communities, chapters and governing boards.
  • Experience developing and implementing program-wide or department-wide assessment plans.
