Job Summary
The Adjunct Assistant Professor-Pastry & Baking is expected to be an effective teacher and excel in course instruction. Listed below are the minimum expectations of all faculty who teach at JCCC.
Effective teaching requires content expertise: Faculty must demonstrate deep subject knowledge, including key concepts, current and relevant research, methodologies, tools and techniques, and meaningful applications.
Effective teaching reflects sound instructional methods drawn from the scholarship of teaching and learning, and cultivates a supportive learning environment that allows students to think critically and experiment with material.
Effective teaching communicates successfully. Effective teaching clearly articulates high, achievable, and purposeful expectations. Effective teaching adeptly guides meaningful course activities, allowing students to advance their knowledge or skill.
In addition to teaching, adjunct faculty members are expected to be an active member of the college community.
Required Qualifications
AAS degree or higher
3 years industry experience in a supervisory position in a commercial kitchen
Proven success as a chef in a commercial food service operation
Current ServSafe certification
2 years classroom teaching experience
Be familiar with, understand and demonstrate foundational techniques and methods of hot food cooking.
Be familiar with, understand and demonstrate a high degree of food safety and organization in the bake shop kitchen.
Be available to perform instructor duties for a variety of pastry/baking courses as well as food service sanitation and fundamental hot food cooking courses.
Be familiar with, understand and demonstrate artisan and Viennoiserie bread products of all types.
Be familiar with, understand and demonstrate foundational and modern/advanced techniques of decoration for occasion & wedding cakes.
Be familiar with, understand, and demonstrate advanced petit pastry products utilizing special dietary needs formulas.
Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor's degree or higher
Certified as ServSafe Manager Instructor/Proctor
3 years classroom teaching experience
Experience with CANVAS or similar learning management systems
ACF Certification at CEC level or higher
