The Department of Athletics

California State University, San Bernardino (CSUSB) is a highly successful member of NCAA Division II, competing in the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA). CSUSB has 210 student-athletes competing in 10 sports. CSUSB Athletics teams compete for national honors in competition and the classroom, boasting the reigning national champion in women's volleyball along with multiple teams ranked nationally. Importantly, CSUSB has had at least one Academic All-American for the past 5 years and boasts a department-wide 3.35 GPA. The CCAA has been one of the nation's most successful intercollegiate athletic conferences since its establishment in 1938. CCAA members have won 154 NCAA Championships (102 men, 52 women) which is far and away the most of any Division II conference.

Job Summary

Under direct supervision of the Senior Associate Athletics Director/Senior Woman Administrator and direction from the Assistant Athletics Director/External Relations, the Marketing and Communications Coordinator for Athletics will be responsible for media relations and event operations activities; marketing and promotion of CSUSB Athletics via multiple outlets and is responsible for the oversight of in-game statistics, social media, and CSUSB Athletics website. A key member of the external staff, the Marketing and Communications Coordinator for Athletics, will help design and execute a comprehensive and operational marketing and communication plan to increase engagement with campus and community stakeholders.

Specific responsibilities will include, but not limited to:
  • Primary communication contact for all athletic teams.
  • Responsible for maintenance and operation of CSUSBAthletics.com and all CSUSB Athletics social media accounts.
  • Assist in executing a marketing and communication plan, including digital and content creation, under the direction of the Assistant Athletics Director/External Relations.
  • Prepare and maintain rosters, schedules, and staff information across all platforms.
  • Responsible for coordinating and submitting all local, regional, and national awards and subsequent voting.
  • Responsible for submitting CoSIDA Academic Award nominations and other applicable academic awards.
  • Athletics' web accessibility point person.
  • Directly supervise CSUSB statistics staff and assist the Game Operations and Facilities Coordinator with oversight of all game staff and event operations and logistics, including knowledge of technical components (scoreboard, live stream, scorehub, hot spots, replay, etc.).
  • Supervises statistical gathering, reporting, maintenance, and historical recordkeeping.
  • Utilize all applicable NCAA Livestats and StatCrew statistical gathering software in live and non-live settings.
  • Assist Assistant Athletics Director/External Relations with online broadcast equipment and software (Blueframe, YouTube).
  • Responsible for preparing and publishing press releases and game previews/recaps and disseminate effectively to local, regional, and national media.
  • Attend all home events/contests and produce post-game content in a timely manner.
  • Manage all pre-and post-game media-related items.
  • Develop and implement a photography strategy to capture content throughout the academic year and supervise student photographers, including archiving and documenting.
  • Complete athletics reports at the request of Athletics senior staff.



Employment Status: Full-time, “non-exempt”, probationary position (with the possibility of converting to permanent).

First Review Deadline: This position will remain open until filled. Applicants will be reviewed beginning July 1, 2021.



Work Schedule
  • Monday through Friday from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm; some evenings and weekends required to support Athletics programming, event management, and game-day operations.



Key Qualifications
  • Excellent writing and communication skills.
  • Some experience working in collegiate athletic or professional sports marketing and/or communications.
  • Working knowledge of all Microsoft Office software.
  • Working knowledge of the NCAA & CCAA rules, guidelines, and principles.
  • Ability to perform in a fast-paced team environment.
  • Ability to effectively work within a diverse population.
  • Nights and weekends required.
  • Foundation knowledge of general practices, methods, and procedures related to public affairs, media relations, marketing, and/or sports information.
  • Ability to keep abreast of public policy and public affairs issues.
  • Working knowledge of protocols and institutional etiquette related to public and media relations.
  • Basic knowledge and understanding of media outlets including print, television, and radio.
  • Ability to work with the media for the coverage of events.
  • Basic knowledge of market research and related techniques. Working knowledge of summary statistics as they relate to research or sports information.
  • Basic knowledge of applicable copyright and other laws pertaining to written materials, news media, and confidentiality.
  • Working knowledge of applicable software packages.
  • Knowledge of basic web communication techniques, vehicles, and formats.
  • Strong writing and editing skills to quickly produce clear and concise standard documents for internal and external publication.
  • Ability to appropriately handle sensitive and confidential information.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to develop and maintain relationships within the university and community and with the media.



Education and Experience
  • Must possess a Bachelor's degree in Marketing, Communications, or related field.
  • Two (2) years of related professional or technical experience.



Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in Athletics and/or higher education.
  • Demonstrated analytical skills utilizing independent judgment and accountability.
  • Ability to effectively work within a diverse population.
  • Basic graphic design skills is preferred.
  • Ability to lift, carry, and move 50 lbs or more.
  • Valid CA Driver's License.



Salary

Anticipated Hiring Range: $2,923.00 - $3,000.00 monthly

Classification Range: $2,923.00 - $5,283.00 monthly
