The Graduate School of Education and Counseling at Lewis & Clark College invites applications for a .5 FTE (benefits eligible) renewable term (non-tenure track) position in the Teacher Education Department, beginning fall 2021.  This position includes responsibility for teaching, advising, and leadership in an innovative and nationally recognized Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT) program and service to the Graduate School and professional community.

 

We are seeking a colleague to join us in a supportive, collegial community of scholar/practitioners committed to enquiry, diversity, social justice, and the preparation of transformative K-12 educators.

 

Responsibilities

  • Teach two courses in social studies curriculum and Instruction for teacher candidates in the Secondary MAT program.
  • Mentor and advise Secondary MAT social studies candidates.
  • Support Secondary MAT social studies candidates in completing and submitting their required performance assessment.
  • Collaborate with Teacher Education faculty, mentors, and supervisors in support of Secondary MAT social studies teacher candidates in their school placements.
  • Participate in ongoing program administrative, assessment, and accreditation activities.
  • Serve on Graduate School committees.
  • Work collaboratively with Teacher Education faculty and in partnership with school district personnel in a program committed to a vision of learning as active inquiry and to preparing K-12 educators to work effectively in diverse school settings. Such work entails an approach to teacher preparation that recognizes and explores deeply the significance of race, culture, gender, sexual orientation, gender identity, socioeconomic status, first language, ability, and other key elements of individual identity and social location as salient elements of educational practice.
  • Support teacher candidates in learning to investigate and support each student’s unique growth – academic, social, and emotional – as compassionate citizens of a democratic society and global community.

Qualifications

  • PhD or EdD preferred; or earned master’s degree in Education or related field.
  • A minimum of three years of experience teaching secondary social studies.
  • The ability to work effectively in partnership with public school personnel.
  • A demonstrated commitment to principles of equity, social justice, diversity, and inclusion.
  • Evidence of college or university teaching, preferred.
