Engineering & Computing: Associate Dean of Undergraduate Education, Technology and Innovation within the College of Engineering and Computing. The Associate Dean will serve as the college leader for undergraduate education and promote excellence to further Miami’s image and standing as a nationally recognized, student-centered public research university. Duties include and are not limited to:

  • Lead the development of innovative undergraduate academic programs and continuous improvement of existing undergraduate programs to enhance the student experience and raise the profile of CEC;
  • Work with faculty to utilize innovative, evidence-based pedagogical techniques to improve student learning and increase student retention;
  • Assist in developing online courses in engineering and computing that have global reach and appeal, particularly in areas where there is high need;
  • Assist in developing and administering an engaging and exceptional integrated first- and second-year undergraduate program that enhances the student experience, inclusivity, engagement, and student success; ensure any first/second year integrated curriculum does not create unnecessary barriers to transfer (Ohio Transfer Module);
  • Ease the transfer and transition of transfer students;
  • Develop pathways programs to engage middle school and high school students in STEM career exploration and ideally, a desire to study STEM at MiamiCollaborate with the Regionals engineering programs and other academic and non-academic units for mutual benefit, efficiency, and opportunity where appropriate;
  • Seek out external funded research to support student success;
  • Work closely with the Associate Dean for Research and Vice President of Research and Innovation to increase undergraduate and graduate research opportunities for our students and faculty;
  • Work closely with faculty and students to engage in tech transfer through partnerships with other units on campus;
  • Coordinate SEEC initiatives and programs such as MUCAT, Grand Challenges Scholars Program, and Humanitarian Engineering;
  • Manage all interdisciplinary programs in the College of Engineering and Computing;
  • Work closely with other entities on campus to enhance interdisciplinary offerings that enhance the undergraduate experience; and
  • Work closely with departments on coordinating their capstone design programs so that they are efficiently managed and tightly integrated into our undergraduate degree programs with strong corporate partnership.

Required: PhD or terminal degree from an accredited college or university or the equivalent thereof in a discipline within one of the College’s four departments: Chemical, Paper & Biomedical Engineering; Computer Science and Software Engineering; Electrical and Computer Engineering; or Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering; a record of teaching, research, and service that qualifies the candidate to be a tenured, full professor in the College.  

This position is available to persons who are currently authorized to work in the United States on a full-time and indefinite basis. (Persons authorized to work on such a basis include US citizens, lawful permanent residents (“green card” holders), asylees, refugees, and temporary residents under IRCA.)

 

Consideration may be given to candidates with significant leadership experience in undergraduate academic programs and a trajectory of increasing responsibility in administrative positions, organizational, collaboration and mentorship skills and be able to demonstrate a productive commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion across all areas of responsibility.
