ASSISTANT PROFESSOR OF HISTORY (DIVERSITY AND DIASPORAS)

FULL-TIME TENURE-TRACK

THE DEPARTMENT: The History Department offers a range of lower- and upper-division undergraduate courses to majors pursuing the BA in History, General Education students, prospective middle and high school teachers in the Single Subject Matter Preparation Program in Social Science, and Public History Certificate students. The department also offers an MA degree program, in which faculty teach seminars in their specialties.

DUTIES OF THE POSITION: We seek a specialist in the history of diversity and diasporas, with teaching and research interests in communities of color in modern US history. The new faculty member would teach a variety of courses, especially supporting our Social Justice and Citizenships concentration. A tenure-track hire would teach courses in both our BA and MA programs. A Ph.D. in history, public history, or related field is required. Experience in online teaching or interest in developing online coursework is desirable.

Please note that teaching assignments at California State University, East Bay include courses at the Hayward, Concord, and Online campuses. In addition to teaching and research, faculty are expected to assume the responsibilities of advising, assist the department with administrative duties, and participate in campus-wide committee responsibilities.

RANK AND SALARY: Assistant Professor. Salary is dependent upon educational preparation and experience. Subject to budgetary authorization.

DATE OF APPOINTMENT: Fall 2022

QUALIFICATIONS: A Ph.D. in history, public history, or related field is required. We seek a specialist in the history of diversity and diasporas, with teaching and research interests in communities of color in modern US history. Preference given to candidates with expertise in Black/African American history. Special consideration given to candidates interested in applied history and community engagement in the Bay Area.

Candidates should demonstrate experience in teaching, mentoring, research, or community service that has prepared them to contribute to our commitment to diversity and excellence .
