Job Description

Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University is currently accepting applications for the Director of Sports Medicine (DSM) position. Serving as a senior member of the athletic department staff, this position has oversight of the health and well-being for over 475 student-athletes.

The DSM will provide game and practice coverage to his/her assigned sports both at home and on the road, as well as special events, and will maintain regular training room and office hours. Specific hours will be set aside for the rehabilitation of injuries, practice coverage (afternoons, some evenings and weekends) and game coverage during evenings and weekends, as required.

The DSM is charged with developing and enhancing relationships with colleges and universities that offer athletic training programs as well as identifying and hiring Athletic Training Interns (Fellows) and student assistants each year.

Responsibilities of this role include:

  • Staffing coordination and supervision of five Assistant Athletic Trainers and three interns
  • Scheduling annual physical exams and doctor visits as required
  • Develop and maintain annual Sports Medicine budget.
  • Oversight of ordering and inventory of equipment and supplies
  • Attending practice sessions and games
  • Rehabilitation needs
  • Handling emergency medical situations
  • Oversight of all medical treatments and insurance issues as they relate to injuries sustained through participation in Embry-Riddle Intercollegiate Athletics.
  • Coordinate insurance needs and requirements with University Insurance Coordinator and Insurance Company representative.
  • Responsible for managing hazardous materials including hazardous materials handling and disposal in accordance with all applicable Federal, State, and local laws relating to hazardous materials.


Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Master's degree
  • (3-5) years of work-related experience
  • National Athletic Trainers Association (NATA) certified


Required skills, knowledge and abilities:

  • Expertise in techniques, methodology and safety procedures of various treatment modalities (whirlpool, hydrocollator, etc.)
  • Proficiency in emergency medicine and emergency procedures.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Organizational skills and ability to prioritize
  • Knowledgeable in all matters relating to the Health Insurance Probability and Accountability Act (HIPPA).


Preferred Qualifications:

  • National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA) certified
  • Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS)
